1. dont see anything remotely 'mini' about it. looks positively HUGE.
2. 3.5-6.4!!! totally absurd. from any other manufacturer it would be dismissed on this basis alone.
3. what is the reason to buy this over buying both a fuji xpro+18-55 AND sony nex6+zeiss 18-55 for the same price??!!
4. i'm not a leica hater i have and love a couple of their lenses. while i think build quality is way overstated, the m9 is a unique product. but theyve lost their way in a sea of arrogance. i hope they go broke.

"you" is not enough to judge a business model. Believe it or not, there is a lot of people outside of here who are concerned
only about image quality and portability, and could not care less if their camera can switch lenses or not.
My mom, for instance, would be such an user, if she was still interested in photography.
For those people, this camera may meet their needs - provided that they can afford it, of course. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Rest assured the "target" audience isn't the general public. Still, this makes one wonder how many such "targeted" audience takes to sustain a company. I am sure similar discussion take places in the board rooms of "Hermes Birkin", and "Montblanc". I think the difference here is that photography is both a technical and an artistic pursuit. The funny thing is that Lecia got to this place because its technical and quality attributes. One could always wonder if one is absent, would it still maintain its loyal following simply based on brand loyalty or collectible value. Interestingly, this is not unlike the problem Apple is facing right now, moving from an innovation company to a me too company. _________________ Follow me on 500px |

In the current crisis, there's only one category of products that not only haven't been affected, but also increased sales: luxury products. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Luxury products market is rising and Leica is evidently aware that they have name somehow considered luxurious. However, what I expect from luxury product is to be in some way extraordinary - design, technology, craftsmanship, how it holds price in time etc. This surely applies to M system, but I cannot see it in this particular camera.
All at all, as I look at Leica share prices on stock market, they probably don't have problems with forum critics _________________ equipment doesn´t count, good photographs do |

VR or not, any middling lens can perform well by ƒ/6.4. Even ƒ/3.5. The point of a 70mm ƒ/6.4 lens is.....?
Their target audience was clearly not us here. They knew what they were doing so it isn't a "bad decision" as much as an intentional choice. Think: gift for girlfriend of a nouveau riche Shanghai princeling in the "import/export" business.
Leica is hoping the likes of those here will save their pence and euro-cents for an M240. |
