All photos taken with Planar 1.2/85 Fifty Years and 5D Mark II, from a fixed position. ISO 1600.
I forgot the lens hood at home but luckily it's T* so it did not suffer at all in spite of the huge front glass. Smile
I also shot 3 videos, but I need to prepare them for publishing.

i am so jealous of your lens collection. Embarassed just when i think i am in the big leagues with my planar 85/1.4, along comes the singular 1.2! even at night these have good DOF for the subjects, as well as maintaining clarity at 1600. do you recall the apertures you used?

Thanks guys! Rbelyell, all photos have been taken with the lens at f/2
I did so because I forgot the lens hood at home so I hoped that to stop down a bit could help in controlling the flare.
As you can see, it was probably unnecessary (also because it would not have stopped inner reflections anyway). The T* handled the situation perfectly.
In a couple of photos (e.g. #2) I could have used a little more depth of field, but I would have risked some subject motion blur, and I did not want to go 3200 ISO.
You could have taken the same photos with your 1.4/85. There was enough light for it. I took the 1.2/85 with me because I had no idea of what kind of lighting I would have found there.
Being a small mountain village I expected some kind of primitive setup. The set turned out to be much more lightened than other sets I have found in cities.
There were two strong lamps in the back of the set, I was afraid that I could have them in frame all the time, luckily the ladies' dress did hide it.
In fact, those bright back lights provided me with an excellent separation from the background and some beautiful hair light.
Almost if it was a fashion set! Laughing

Really nice pictures Orio, #4 is my favourite you caught an interesting moment between the girls. I really like #1 #3 and #5 too.

Do I detect a change in your style, or is it just the different subject/ambiance? It seems to me you are more in sync with your subject, almost as if you were part of the scene instead of a spectator.

You think so? I don't know, actually I'm not sure if I have a style at all, except to react spontaneously to what I find.
I try to photograph in sort of a Zen way if you like, trying to be completely open and receptive to what happens in front of me,
without my ego or concepts to pre-determine my choices (except maybe subconsciously).
And I don't want my photos to have an over-imposed graphical style or technique that identifies them.
I like the definition that Jacques Prévert gave of Édouard Boubat: "a peace correspondant".
That's the same as how I feel to be (with humble respect to the original).

wow, ... one of the hardest topics and perfectly managed !

I see a lot of musicians stage shots due to my profession but hardly come across similar quality.

Cheers

Well done, Orio.
The pictures are stunningly alive. Musician and singers face expression, composition, it's like one were there. Good work.

Regards.
Jes.

POP!!

What superb imaging Smile All are brilliant and capture the gig brilliantly. Images are crystal clear and look awesome in big size. Vibrant colours, pop, great expressions and the 5D II handles very, very well at ISO 1600.

More big photos please Orio!!

Thank you all guys.
Here's a few videos of the evening:

"Brava":
http://www.vimeo.com/27685397

"Maramao perché sei morto" (Maramao why did you die):
http://www.vimeo.com/27607135

"La gelosia non è più di moda" (Jealousy is no longer fashionable)
partial (ending only):
http://www.vimeo.com/27590778

I have to apologize for the technical quality, I was handling the camera manually and I was in the middle of a crowd. Plus the tele lens did not help with shakes.
The lens used in all takes is the same as the photos (Planar 1.2/85)
