Only in production from 1976-1977, built around the old Nikkormat ELW body but using the forthcoming FE's metering system, and the first AI Nikon. Fingers crossed it's working - they're pretty robust.
I'm guessing from the photo it's a 50mm lens, but the hood and stunning photo quality doesn't allow me to identify it. Anybody any ideas? _________________ Richard

I probably ought to be worried that it was listed under: "Photography > Film Cameras > Disposable Cameras"
I wouldn't have gone a lot higher with that lack of description and quality of photo, and only spotting it this morning (imaginatively listed as "Camera") I didn't have a chance to contact the seller to find out any more... _________________ Richard

Well it's arrived...
First thing that struck me was the lens, as expected it's a 50mm. I wasn't expecting anything anymore exotic, but you never know. It's the 50mm f2 AI, I'd have preferred a 'long-nose' 1.8 as I haven't got one of those but it's in nr-mint condition (just evidence that a filter has been fitted and removed - otherwise markless) so it would be churlish to complain, and it's a superb perfoming lens that's very under-rated... So far no complaints for Ł26...
Moving on to the camera itself...
Exterior cosmetic condition is superb. It's still got the plastic cover that stops the base getting scratched, and the strap mounts have got the litttle leather triangles that stop them rubbing the body no dents, no scratches and no brassing anywhere on the body, just two tiny chips in the paint on the door hinge. Opening the back, everything is clean and as it should be. Light seals intact although they are getting a little 'tacky' and probably do want replacing soon.
Closing the door and turning it round the inside of the shutter is as good as the rear, the mirror is unmarked and the throat is clean. After a few seconds head scratching I worked out how to open the battery compartment (I confess if I hadn't had the link from www.mir.com I'd have never guessed the battery compartment was under the mirror box). Battery compartment is empty, but uncorroded. So far so good...
Checking the controls doesn't take long, they're nearly identical to my FE, with the addtion of mirror-lock up. Obviously without a battery I can't test a great deal, but using the fully manual shutter speed (1/90th) the shutter fires smoothly. Cocking the shutter moves as expected and the counter advances. Self timer works fine - all okay. Viewfinder bright and clear, and in manual mode the shutter speed is indicated correctly. Opening the back again does reveal a minor problem - the counter only returns to 30, rather than start - it's a niggle rather than a real problem - I suppose there's a chance it might free with use, I'm not sure that I'll bother opening it up to free it (assuming everything else works).
Next stage get a battery, otherwise it's a functioning meterless camera with a fixed shutter-speed
Fingers crossed...

Imageshack has no fault for it, it's just the picture that is big.
Richard we had a poll on this forum here some months ago and the majority of members voted to have picture size limited to 900 pixels the largest size.
So when you have to show larger pictures I suggest to use imageshack's thumbnail feature, on the forum a thumbnail appear that will link to the full res image on a new page. _________________ Orio, Administrator

I'll have another look at imageshack - this was the first time I even managed to get it to load. I think the poll was before my time, but I'll stick to 900 in future. _________________ Richard

Exactly my problem!
Every time I just tried to open imageshack, it didn't load, not even after several minutes and retries. That's why I never use it when I show pics... _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

It's nice. Same features as Imageshack.
Or, now www.imageshock.com has returned. Good choice for Europeans because it's based here I think. _________________ Orio, Administrator

The imageshack links are nearly always broken for me - they just lead to the main imageshack page and not to the pic. Oddly, this isn't a problem with other photo hosts, just imageshack. _________________ Dave - Moderator
