They've gone rare here too. I remember from my childhood when they were all around. They make lots of noise while flying ... helicopter-like Smile

Cheers

Doesn't look like much of a conversationalist at dinner time. Great shot,
Tobbs! Smile

Really good shot. This looks a lot like what we call "June " bugs here in the US...But I don't recall ours as being so hairy...

We have May bugs, as well as June bugs! May bugs are quite bit larger though, and hairy!

Called "Maggiolino" here, very rare now due to farmers' pesticides in the past (it can eat a lot of new growth of vegetables).

Great shot.
It is not a bug, it is a feature. Very Happy

This beetle has some personality, but is not a June bug. Looks like a chicken-choker to me.

Our "June" bugs do not arrive until July ... Shocked

Thanks guys.

I don't know much about bugs but here we call this bigger ones "Maikäfer" (may bugs) and the smaller ones Junikäfer (june bugs). I think the june bugs have a more green-glitzy head and not so many hair ... but I am not sure.
I am interested now and will have a Wikipedia session afterwards.

don't you use the ...lino word-ending for something which is small ? ... I am just interested because those bugs are not really the smallest Wink

"ino" is a diminutive for something small and/or cute, yes.
Maggio means May, and of course in this case I think the term of comparison is the man's size Wink
