We have been at the circus today. I took my trusty Pentax *ist DS with me, with two SMC Pentax-M lenses: the 85mm f/2 and the 35mm f/2. Because of the difficult lighting conditions I have used both lenses wide open. I shot in RAW but it was hard to determine the right white balance (because of the colored stage lights) but I did my best.

Hope you like them!

Amazing photography, clear and communicative, in difficult conditions

(How close to the ring were your seats?)

We were sitting at the front row, not only because of our kids, but also because of their father, the photographer Wink Of course, I was not the only photographer but I was the only one to not use a flash. I did not want to kill the atmosphere in my photos.

By the way: it was a small circus; the artist family originates from Germany.

Wow, superb set! Shooting in those conditions must have been very difficult, but you've managed to get some *really* sharp shots in there Shocked The 85mm looks like a fantastic piece of glass.

What sort of ISO were you shooting it? I reckon even ramped up you would've needed some steady hands! Anyway, fantastic images!!

Thank you! It is a fantastic piece of glass but it is also very underrated.

I used ISO 800 in all of them. As you can see the 6MP sensor of the *ist DS isn't very noisy.

I like them well, indeed, Peter, particularly the horse photos, especially the first ...

Perfect. The WB is warm, I guess due to the lighting, but the images are exactly how you would want to see them. Any other setting would look wrong I think. Well done to the other Peter Smile

Nice series. You did a great job considering the lighting you had to work with.
