Teaser: Apo-Lanthar 180mm autumn shots

Well, just a few minutes later I took these shots using the Apo Lanthar 180mm. I had to go from ISO200 to 400 since the sun had nearly
disappeared...

Yes, this 180mm Voigtländer is a real gem. I can recommend it to anyone who is looking for a bokeh machine which has no CA and produces tremendous detail already wide open.

I have some samples in original size as well, taken with a D3. Resolving power is plenty for full-frame sensor as well.

Very nice lens and great samples indeed !!

I first thought that they all look very soft from focus ... before I discoverd to click the photos to see a crisp result.

Dang, what a terrific lens.
I am really no macro shooter, so I can not justify such an expense for myself.
But committed macro shooters should really do anything to buy a copy of this lens.

It's not a macro lens, although the focal length combined with min. focusing of 1.2m makes it useful for large tropical butterflies or large flowers. Most of my butterfly shots would not have been possible without the reach the Voigtländer 180mm gives. Shooting butterfly close-ups with a 60mm macro requires a camoflage net and lots of patience

The handful of MFlenses.com members who have the 4/180 aren't the only ones to recommend it highly; Bjorn Rorslett reviews it here (nfoto): http://nikongear.com/smf/index.php?topic=17200.0 with a closing line of "...the 180 APO even under the less ideal conditions will easily best most other lenses.
