Just a few snapshots from around Irishtown in Kilkenny, near the Black Abbey. First, I thought I'd grossly overexposed them, but it was Vuescan throwing a wobbler and deciding to run the backlight at full output. The basic Epson software did better. This was a brutally bright day, with not a cloud in the sky - the lens and film coped well, with a decent hood on.
Film Fuji Neopan 400 in D76 1+3 for 20 minutes, intermittent agitation.

2. I didn't get the focus quite right, but it ended up being a period shot.

3. An old lady in this house is a fanatical supporter of the local team. The absence of colour lets this down, the entire house and garden is black and yellow. And yes, that IS Elvis in the corner. He works in the chip shop around the corner.

4. I waited until the girl was in the zone of focus, just to see how it turned out.

5. A traditional butcher's shop, not many of them left.

The B&W is unbeatable to give poetic rendition of streets and houses. The images display good detail, middle contrast is a bit on the weak side but that is part of the game with old lenses and can be easily improved. I love the sense of depth of the iron poles in the girl's picture. About the old shops, isn't that a pity. They look so beautiful. I hope that some of them will last until I visit Ireland (which will happen sometime in the future). _________________ Orio, Administrator

Thanks guys.
One thing this showed me was that hand holding and using the cable release is feasible, but the min aperture of f:12 is a bit limiting. I'd have preferred f:16 if available, or smaller. It seems the focus scale is reasonably accurate, if some care is taken about estimated distances. I must use the Pullin RF more. _________________ Dave - Moderator

The first one is excellent. Some of the others look a bit front-focused - the railings in front of the enthusiast's house are nice and sharp as are the kerbstones outside the butchery.
It definitely has great potential, though. _________________ View or buy my photos at:

Hi dave,
I like your pics and your country as well. My fave is the pic with the butcher. I love this small shops with the great advertising over the entrance.
It´s time to go to Ireland for the next trip. _________________ Rolf |
