I found out of own experience, that rear caps are a MUST.

In such a case, just another idea: what about an M42 adapter with a flange on the inner side, to push the pin on the "auto"-only lenses, thus avoiding the "electric cable" mods required to use lenses such as the Helios 44-M5, or the Flektogon 20/4 ?

I had the impression from the image posted by hk300 that his adapter already has the flange. However, I think I have also read that the flanged adapters might cause problems with very wide rear elements - basically f/1.2 lenses, that is. Can anybody confirm? |
Sorry, the picture is for an M42 to Canon adapter, and i forgot to mention in my previous post "M42 to Pentax K" adapter ...
There should be no such a problem, since the diaphragm control pin was operated by the camera body, so it should have been positioned almost at the same place, whatever the lens ... I have read somewhere that these adapters seem to be available, so will try hunting for a picture/link ...

I think depending on the rear mount of it would be possible to make an adapter.
