Field Test: Hasselblad (Carl Zeiss Sonnar) 150mm f4 T

Got the above at a price I can't refuse (with option to return) more than a week ago. It got a scratch at the back element (probably from re-cocking the lens) and some spots in the front element. The intended use was for close up of flowers where manual focusing is not bad. Since I didn't detect the effect of the mentioned flaws, I decided to keep it and have some fun on it.

To those familiar with Hasselblad lenses, what I have observed are probably boring already but for a first time user like me; it opened up some fun adventures. The details and image characteristics seems to justify the cost and the reputation :~) (sorry to be a bit smiling here but I have cheap lenses that might be clinging on its tail for the subjects I am doing). The long focus throw gives me a wider range for getting usable focused shots. Used a Fotodiox Hasselblad to Minolta/Sony adapter for my Sony A700.

The details on that lens are available online. All images done hand held, JPG, cropped and basic PP. Some settings in images but I got tired putting it in after doing a few.

Outstanding stuff, indeed. Who cares about a scratch that doesn't show up?

Thanks much all. I was surprised with the results considering a nasty scratch in the rear element, see picture below. I know someday it will hit me in maybe different angle, high contrast area, etc. but for now, lots of fun so far. As I mentioned before, your shared findings and info here inspired me to go deeper into the joy of manual lenses. Thanks again.
cheers,
gil
p.s. I put the green wire in the left to minimize the cocking (the right term for the shutter and aperture closing?) of the lens whenever I place a Hasselblad extension tube. Also to minimize that, I also just used my AF extension tube so that I won't disturb the setup.

The Sonnar 4/150 is reputed as one of the sharpest lenses ever made.
The focal lenght makes the scratch not so bad for images. It would have been a different story if the lens was a Distagon...

Astonishing pictures, especially those with the humming-bird. They must be very difficult to catch with a MF-lense.

Congrats
Thomas

yes it's possible.
the problem is that some Blads don't have the aperture ring. So you need to be careful in picking those Blads that do.

To be safe it is enough to buy lens C type. All have aperture ring. But true is that they all are very sharp wide open. Special 150, 250, Distagon 4/40
My lens from medium format which are working on digital SLR (using adapter):
Designed for Pentacon Six, (Sonnar 2.8/180, Biometar 2.8/80, Biometar 2.8/120, Flektogon 4/50/ Flektogon 2.8/60, Mir 26B 3.5/45, Mir 38B 3.5/65, Kaleinar 2.8/150,)
Designed for Kiev88 (Jupiter 36B 3.5/250, Arsat 3.5/30, Vega 12B 2.8/90)
Designed for Hasselblad type C (Distagon 4/50, Distagon 4/40, Planar 2.8/80, Sonnar 4/150, Sonnar 5.6/250)
Designed for Mamiya 645 (Mamiya 1.9/80, Mamiya 2.8/45, Mamiya 4/150, Mamiya 2.8/150, Mamiya 4/210)
I know that also Lens for Pentax 67 can work on my Pentax but I gave up, adapter is $177 plus S/H
I didn't try Bronica, I have Kowa lens but no adapter

Now with different adapters I can use all this lenses with Mamiya 645M, mamiya lenses of course without any adapter. If I will buy next system, Canon EOS or Nikon I have to buy only few lenses. The "base" I have here

Gil, those are some really outstanding shots. From the amazing Hummingbird to the beautiful OOF color/bokeh on the flower shots.

And the lens itself is a great looking design...

How do I get one of those to mount on my Pentax Smile

Click here to see on Ebay

about $30. From China. Hasselblad - PK adapter.

There also is a Fotodiox one for about $90.

There's a 150/4 Sonnar on KEH right now for $90! there, I said it! Sad

I'll just wait for the next one when I have $120 to spare. Embarassed
