I couldn't resist buying this lens since it went for less than 10 USD.
I may not be the most solid lens I have seen and it took me a while to figure out the pre-set, but from an optical point of view it seems to be a lot of performance for the money.
Wouldn't have thought about it if it hadn't been for reading previous threads in this forum.

More evening light, and still a little ice in the lake.

It's a cheap but good lens. The images show its quality.

I really like the 3rd pic. Nice catch.

I like the last one, and I think it would do great in B&W.

Third shot for me, too, well-timed!

Man on the river is nice.

Thanks for your comments!
The man on the jetty was really a stroke of luck. I just happened to pass by at the right time. I think it shows a bit of the lens capability of shooting in to the sun.

There seems to be many good Russian lenses around. Is this one a copy of some western lens or is it a Russian design?

The last one in B/W below as suggested. I'm not very good at B/W conversions but I tried to make i lit as closely to the coloured original as possible.

It is a superb lens. I like your photos very much. I was testing mine at the weekend on a film camera to compare it to Pentax dSLR performance. I don't like the bokeh too much, but other than that it has become my favourite lens of all time Very Happy

I test my lenses on the dog, if I can count the hair on their coat, the lens is ok Laughing

On Pentax dSLR

Pentax dSLR

Pentax ME Super, all at f2, Adox CHS100 in Diafine. Poor scanner technique that I need to work on, but it was nice to see the lens at full frame Very Happy

Nice dog photos. I like German Shepards.
I use the dog method to evaluate lens sharpness myself somethimes Smile

hi Sven
in my humble opinion, the good side of a B&W conversion alternative is that it allows you to go far from the colour original, bringing out some potential that the colours would hide.
In the case of your picture, in my mind I was seeing something like this:

Not really what I envisioned, but that was the general idea...

Hi Sven, I have the 44-M and the 44-2... I prefer my 44-M because it mounts more solidly on my pentax,
and I like the A/M switch for focus-metering.

But both of them are excellent performers for the money. And the Helios has spent more time on my camera than any other lens in the last 6 months.

I like the B&W German Shepard shots...

And Orio, that is a very nice B&W of the icy trees...

Wow Guy, that first photo must be the most beautiful child portrait I have seen in a long time!!
Maybe I would clone out the strong highlight on top right as it competes a bit for attention with the main subject.

The second one is perfect for the pose, but I would like a little curve applied to bring out some little light from the skin

I like the dog shots.

Anybody that can MF on animals is very skilled in my opinion.

Gus: Your first portrait is super

Orio: I like your B/W better, but I'm not sure if the shot gained that much from being B/W

Martin: Dog photography with MF is indeed a challenge. It takes an obedient German Shepard that can be still for a moment. Smile
Taking shots of dogs in movement usually requires a short telephoto but along with that comes a shallow DOF. Trying to focus "on the fly" is beyond my skills.
I have found that it's often better to focus on a spot (where the dogs are likely to pass) in advance and take the photo when they pass. Sunny weather helps a lot too. The picture below is meant to illustrate this. Not Heilos and not perfectly sharp, but not too bad for being MF I think. I probably should have used a shorter shutter time.

Nice pan, Sven. Nailed it.
