Just many years of passionate "lens hunting" Wink Wink

And a last one if I may, really a Zeiss masterpiece designed by Prof. Glazel himself and often used in his teachings ...

Biometar f/2 has an aperture ring marked to f/1.5 ?

Special lens built in a Biotar 75/1.5 mechanism ?

Prototype lens, they often used the mounts, they already had, for testing.

For exterior beauty, I love the old Takumar 135/3.5 pre-set, with its bands
of chrome and black enamel. Also, the typical Takumar alternating
"ribs" on the focusing ring are classically beautiful to me.

the Takumar f3.5/135mm must also be one of my most beautiful lenses

though i find the f2.8/105mm of the same design, for being shorter, even more lovely

also like the looks of the f2/58mm

Many thanks to the two Klauses for those lovely Zeiss shots, I'm so jealous!

I need to make up my mind on my most beautiful lens still, but one of the most beautiful lenses I have ever used was a Steinheil Quinar 2.8/135 VL in matte chrome finish! WOW! What a beauty!

If Klaus and Klaus were to bring some of those special lenses to a mflenses forum gathering I bet people would happily pay to try them!

I know I would 'here Klaus, here's 20e, let me shoot a few shots with that prototype...' lol

May I ask about the UV lenses from Rodenstock and Zeiss, do these use different glass types to allow transmission of wavelengths below 420nm? I know nothing about UV photography but I do know a lot about UV lighting and have a ton of UV LEDs of different wavelengths from 385 to 415nm so building a UV macro ring light would be simple for me, just wondering if any of my lenses would work with these wavelengths or whether I would need on of these rare UV lenses...

My greatest beauty: Schneider Betavaron 50-125/4-5.6 enlarger zoom.

But enough of beauty! What are your scariest, ugliest, weirdest lenses?
I'll nominate my Industar-58 enlarger lens set in a big black trumpet.

I must post pictures. Yes, one of these days, Real Soon Now...

I also have that lens and the Pentacon version, the Meyer looks nicer by far.

That Nikon is quite a pretty lens imho.

This beaten-up Tair is actually quite nice compared to some of the ugly things I have:

1.4 kilos of steel in that fat old babushka but like your Nikon, a good shooter:

100% crop:

I'll have to take some pics of my horrid ones tomorrow and start a thread, need daylight to take the pics.

BTW, were those early Yashinons made by the same people who made the early Mamiya Sekors? The front of the lens looks almost exactly like a Mamiya.

haha

we will have to distinguish "ugly" as in beat up, from UGLY, as in very ugly design.

Your tair is like a moose

so ugly it's beautiful.

actually that's an elk, hehe

You know, if we're gonna start talking about the most beautiful lens we've ever owned in terms of the pictures it takes (or has taken), then that becomes an entirely different kettle of fish . . . as 'they' say.

For me, it would require a considerable amount of . . . um, well, considering. Not just the lens or the images it has taken, but the locations I've found myself in, then and now.

So, I'm off to do some considering. And whatever I end up posting, the posts might not contain a photo of that specific lens because it might be long gone by now. Which means it's also highly likely that the image(s) will have been recorded on film.

I look forward to seeing the results of your considerations Michael!

I was taking the beauty thing to refer to the aesthetic appearance of the lens. The beautiful ones being the finely machined Schneiders, Zeisses etc.

Seems the most beautiful lenses all date from the days when men worked at lathes handcrafting beautiful barrels for them...
