I've been scratching my head trying to get the P/KA mount to give me an f-stop reading, because it was behaving just like the ordinary K mount and nothing electrical was happening. I found that if I pressed the lens release button in and rotated the lens backwards by ~2mm it would suddenly work; up flashed an aperture reading and the camera/lens combo worked like it should in all modes. Brilliant stuff.
But 2mm? Fer gawd's sake, 2mm? What kind of so-called tolerances were Tamron working to? I suspect my cam and the mount are at opposite ends of the compatability spectrum, but even so...
Anyway, looks like I'll have to Dremel out the slot slightly and fill in the original side of it with epoxy. _________________ Dave - Moderator

before you do that -
are you sure you seat the mount down right, with both feeler ears in slots, the lens in "A" securely etc?
Next, clean the contacts on the mount.
You should not be having this problem, nor should you have to take dremel to it... _________________ -Jussi

It's doing it with every lens I've tried so far. Possible it's actually the camera mount, but I don't have a P/KA lens to double check it with, just P/K. Like I said, most probably each component is at the opposite end for tolerance (and beyond).
Googling the problem, I find this isn't the only one with this occurance and the remedy is exactly as I thought.
(edit)
Solved it. The black push-button on the bottom allows the extra rotary movement of the aperture ring to the proper AE position. Damnit, now I'll have to Dremel something else, just out of principle. _________________ Dave - Moderator

I can see why people chase after them. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Not easy to get and usually very expensive, I've given up hope of seeing one at a sensible price, last one was over £100. |

Here's a hint how I got 2 of em, plus a PK for free... (someone on Craigslist sold a camera package worth about $225 for $75, and sold it out from under me It had a PKA)...
The secret is finding lenses with one attached. I bought the Tam macro locally, mount included. The Tam 28-135 I bought just for the PKA. And I bought a $20 Tam 70-210 non-SP for the PK. Sold that lens for $20 without mount.
In all, I've spent maybe $40 for 2 PKA mounts. Plus I still can sell my Tam 90 for $50, making them free _________________ Pentax Bodies: K10D + D-BG2 | MX |

Probably a bit late for a contribution (been away) but my experience is that my PKA mount is very loose on my 19AH & hangs off the camera or lens when disengaging. It is the opposite on my 103A where I have to fight it to get it off the lens. It operates fine with the 46A.
As far as electrical connections go, I have had to clean the contacts to get then to work on any of the lenses. _________________ Pentax K10D + Kit lens.
