Here is a 185mm F2 lens made by a research institute for a rare 16mm fast speed movie camera. Only 60 some such cameras were made, and one could probably still order one from the institute. So it is a rare lens. The camera was awarded some kind state prize many years ago. It is a camera of very high specifications. I have the camera, not the lens. My camera has no s/n, so it could be a prototype. I modefied the lens mount to take M42 optics.

A thread about Chinese lenses and from post Nr.96 are images taken with a Pearl River 135/2.8 lens. It is a fairly common lens. You can find many exotic Chinese and foreign lenses from this site.

I am very pleased with the finding of this very rare cine 2X teleconverter in Arriflex standard mount. A 35mm cine prime lens become useable with it on a full frame 35mm camera. Wink It was made by Nr.608 factory. It has no s/n. I don't remember ever seeing another one for sale over the years. The other one is a high quality 20mm F2 lens made in late 1976 with the same mount. There is an extremely rare 20mm F1.4 lens made by the same factory. I saw one last month, but let it go for the too high price. I kind of regret it.

You know, I think I may recall some of those, especially the movie camera (not this particular one probably, but the color and finish) from a China trade show in Manila in the late 1970s. Those were the early days of the trade opening and I think at the time much of the emphasis was on the product of state factories.

I've owned this Wester 'Auto West' rangefinder with a Wescon 45 / 2.8 lens ( NKK-MXV ) and a Seiko shutter for about 5 years now, and despite frequent searching on the internet my copy is the only one I know to. It is mentioned briefly in McKeown's guide but that's it - there is nothing else. Google searches just lead to my attempts to find information about this odd camera that I found in a local charity shop.

Here is a Chinese national foreign trade company's brochure that listed Nr.608 factory's products. And a quality passport page of a set of Nanjing made cine primes in 1971. I find the documents very interesting for knowing more about these early optical products. Those Nanjing made cine primes are very rare and I think they are like earliest Japanese and German cameras and lenses with big investment potential. IMO, these are R7-R8 items. China is sort of like early Germany or Japan. However, these are not mine.Sad

Lloydy , Thanks for another R9,almost unique item listed in this thread. I don't understand why some rare cameras demand a huge amount money such as a Red Flag 20, while many equally rare, and precision ones only sold for pea nuts. This is also true for wrist watch collecting.

bang2, It looks very rare and old to me. Maybe more rare than you thought. Thank you!

Another image of the rare Chunfeng SX-16 16mm movie camera. It was pacted in a leather case together with a battery charger, and a lens. The speed of this camera is 6-144 frames/s.

A 50/1.4 Biotar lens for a 16mm movie camera. Now it is easy to use it on a digital camera with an adaptor. It is more often seen than the black ltm pre-war version.

The Flektogon 65/2.8 lens for Pentacon 6 is an excellent quality lens that for some reason, it was the most expensive lens among Pentacon lens line in 1970's. If you own one, you know how good it is. It seems less common than other CZJ optics for P-6.

The Pearl River 35/2.3 lens is a tough one. Believe it or not. the images you will see in that link was shot with a lens that the rear element was broken into 3 pieces and than glued together. Rolling Eyes I have a copy, but never seriously used it yet.

A 16mm anamorphic lens in use. The photo prime lens should be a 100mm one or longer to avoid vignetting. The owner and user explained it in details if you read Chinese.

I saw one of the biggest in a store. It was for display only, not for sale. The owner told me that it was used for one of the national day parades. Then I went home and found this page from the web. I guess anyone on the list could be a rare piece now?

WESTLICHT auction house sold many rare Chinese cameras and lenses these years and their site even offered a Chinese edition in recent years for rich Chinese bidders. Deng said that let some people become rich first. If only 10% of the population become rich, it is a huge number.

Here is an image of the rare and expensive collectable Leica M copy, Red Flag 20 and some lenses. I can not afford them now. The very first auction price for a set in early 1990's in Beijing was RMB 23,000 + yuan only IIRC.

I know from this forum that this Germany made lens is almost 100 years old. But, very old not always means rare, right ? Laugh 1
I adapt this 'old man' to my 5D II and very proud that it works well.

Another rare Chinese industrial or military lens? I think it is a R5 item. It has a very short BFL of about 30mm so it is not a copy of a Zeiss biotar 58/2. It has an uncommon 54mm thread mount, and is packed in a wooden case. It should be a high quality expensive lens. I have not seen it used by anyone yet. It has a focusing thread, but curiously without distance scales.

A well made Chinese enlarging lens. It looks like one of the higher grade lens with a metal front and rear lens caps. I have not seen another one yet, so it could be a R7 item. Smile Those 50-80mm enlarging lenses often cost much more than a common Chinese TLR camera, a Seagull 4B. And this appears an even higher grade one among them.

I am puzzled with this rare OM Zuiko mount Chinese marco lens 50/3.5. It focus down to 0.15 meter and it has a very different construction than a Zuiko 50/3.5 macro lens with a much bigger front element. Why the user would want such a lens being custom made when he could use an original OM macro lens easily? It has no s/n, and I haven't seen another one yet over the years.

Another one of this rare lens just appeared on a Chinese site. It has a number of 0.118 on the front ring. My question is still unsolved. What could be its application?

A very rare Soviet PK mount lens, a Volna 1.8/50. It feels even smoother than a Super Takumar lens. Like 1 small
