I would say somethig for Contax lenses -
in the matter of the portrait -- landcapes or portrait of the big scenes:

Biotar 1.5/75 - excellent portrait lens but not good for long distances,
Biotar 2/58 - the same as B 1.5/75
Jupiter 11A, 4/135 very good for long distances but...
Sonnar 2.8/135 - very good for long distances and moreover great compact result in depth..!!
Planar 1.4/85 - excellent for long distances;;;
Planar 1.4/50 - it is not exactly portrait lens but excellent performer for long disatnces;;; what's the point?

I am not talking about makro-planar 2/100, 2.8/100 and Leica's lenses - higher price? Snobs? No - true performance!! Why should these brands sell their products for less value? I am not talking about ebay's sellers they trying to squeeze your wallet or inflation Smile

If you are walking and trying take pics like portrait for small distances you can use all these lenses mentioned above but when you see some object 20m further Biotars are letting you down but Contax not! The best thing on the Contax lenses is that are more applicable -
higher price but you won't be disappointed - attila mentioned that Orio buys more expensive lenses - that's only one way how to build your equipment up!

Of course - if you have the money to spend. Otherwise you can have a lot of fun by using "cheaper" lenses if you know which lenses to look for. Wink

yep! agree... I do have a lot of fun with my Industar 26M 2,8/52 for LEICA, m39!

Its dark more than The Middle Age, focusing - oh now!
It works like a macro - totally out of control Smile)

just one shot for example --- and was really surprised! See this please..

Beside also my Nikkor 85/1.8 is not exceptional for shooting at long distances, it's not what that lens has been build for.

Hehe LucisPictor, money is just part of the equation I guess. Probably if there'd be a so huge difference in quality we all would go with just 3-4 lenses.
I also think that everyone has his own tastes and also different needs related to the subjects we're shooting more, that's the reason of some discussions. For example in shooting food I rarely use my Nikkors even if they are for sure sharper and probably better lenses than old Meyer or CZJ ones.
I should post some test shots next time as an image worths a thousand words.

Wonderful shot, and those colors, those colors! And how the light is falling on the flower surfaces is also a lot important.

Completely agree, every lens has different characters if you find right place for them you can enjoy to make pictures with any of them. And if you know more and more lenses you can find what is the best ones for you.
