Has anyone tried this lens?
Is it worth it for the 19-35mm?

Depend from your expectation , if you satisfied with low quality it will be useful. Super wide angle one of the hardest area for lens makers, good zoom even more harder. I not expect anything good from a "noname" zoom in super-wide angle range.

I had one (bought new, sold it for 15€).

Plastic barrel, so-so performances, not worth the $149 price tag IMHO.

I had better results with the Pentax 18-55 kit lens (which has a wider range).

Usable on film camera but don't expect too much.

I guess this nails it. If you can find such a lens for little money and use it on a film cam, it can be a great addition to a lens set.
It might also be fine on a 8-10MPix crop cam, but if it can provide convincing results on a 5D (or even 5DII)...? I doubt it.

Thanks for the input.
I figured it was a cheapie. I think I will pass on this and just get a CZ.
I'm running a Canon 20D.

Not manual focus, but I am very happy with my Tokina 19-35 f/3.5-4.5

That is not the same lens as the one you post, but I think the Tokina was also sold under the Tamron brand. Your 19-35 is probably Cosina made.

Ther has been a lot of discussion about these 19-35 lenses.
I think it's all the same design, but manufactured by different lensmakers and sold as different brands.
I still own a Tamron AF 19-35, gave me satisfying results with my 10D and 20D
One day i 'll by me a 5D mk1 and i will have a superwide angle......

The Tamron might very well be the same as the Tokina indeed, but I never handled one myself. The Vivitar, Cosina etc. lenses are definitely different from the Tokina. For instance, the Cosina and Vivitar have a rotating front element (the Tokina does not), and construction of the Cosina doesn't feel as solid as the Tokina.

I would expect that you had MUCH better luck with that Pentax kit lens. It's a decent performer.

The big difference with the Pentax kit lens is that the Phoenix 19-35 is a full frame lens. I tried it on my Canon 1DS and the results were surprisingly good for a lens at this price level. I got very nice pictures at 19mm and F/8-11, and 19mm on full frame is pretty wide for a sub $150 lens.

So I guess it all boils down to the size and pixel density of the sensor on your camera. If you are using a crop camera, the the 19-35mm will turn into a rather uninteresting 29-53mm zoom with so-so resolution for a modern imager with a high pixel density. On the other hand, when mounted on a film camera or on a full frame DSLR with large pixels, the lens could prove very useful as a cheap superwide to wide zoom.
