EDIT (June 14, 2010): Incredible what has changed since this post!

Hi!

Before I went on holiday, I had to think about which lenses to bring.

So I came up with a top 3 of each focal length range, well sometimes there are not three lenses in one range.

Fisheye:
Circular: Peleng 3.5/8*
Diagonal: Zenitar 2.8/16* (no alternatives here)

Superwide lenses: (Well, those I call that...)
1) Nikkor-N.C 2.8/24* (definitely first choice!)
2) Hanimex Automatic 3.5/23 (with quite a distance!)

28mm:
1) Kiron 2.0/28* MC
2) Vivitar Auto Wide-Angle 2.5/28* (Kiron)
2) Vivitar Auto Wide-Angle 2.8/28 (Komine)
2) Pentax-M SMC 2.8/28 (all three on one level and the Kiron 2/28 not very much ahead, so here low f-stop decides.)

35mm:
1) Nikkor-O 2.0/35*
2) MIR-1B 2.8/37*
3) Asahi SMC Takumar 3.5/35* (all three pretty close, but the Nikkor doubtlessly No.1)

50mm:
1) Pentax-M SMC 1.7/50*
2) Auto Revuenon 1.4/55* (by Tomioka)
3) Mamiya Auto Sekor 1.8/55*
(With the Helios-44M-6 2/58 MC and the Auto Rikenon 1.7/50 pretty close behind.)

85-100mm:
1) Jupiter-9 2.0/85* (definitely No. 1)
2) Meyer Optik Trioplan 2.8/100 V
3) Hanimex Tele-Lens 4/100 (closer at the Meyer than one might think)

135mm:
1) Nikkor-Q.C Auto 3.5/135*
2) Jupiter 37-A 3.5/135*
3) Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 4/135 1Q*
(And the Pentacon auto 2.8/135 and the Weltblick 3.5/135 not very far behind.)

200mm:
1) Telear-N 3.5/200* (Kiev)
2) Pentacon 4/200* (with a considerable distance)
3) Super Varexon 3.5/200 (and again somewhat behind)

300mm:
1) Tair 3-S 4.5/300 (Winner and only player. Wink )

Wideangle Zoom:
1) Sigma Zoom-0 II 3.5-4.5/28-85 MC*
2) Soligor C/D Zoom+Macro 3.8-5.3/35-200 MC* (but really close!)
3) Tokina SZ-X 4-5.3/28-105 SD (with the Rikenon 3.4-4.5/35-70 in its neck)

Tele Zoom:
1) Soligor MC 3.5/70-220 Macro*
2) Tamron SP 3.8-5.4/60-300 MC 23A* (but really, I mean really close!)
3) Tamron SP 3.5/70-210 CF Macro MC 19AH
(But the Soligor C/D Zoom+Macro 3.8-4.8/75-205 MC, the Tokina RMC II 4/80-200 and even the Tamron 3.8-4/70-210 Macro 46A are good runner-ups.)

*= have a good chance to be taken on a trip.

Then I though, "Hmmm, does that mean that all the other lenses you have are candidates for ebay?" Well, it seems so.

We will see... Wink

This is a lot Smile how about your wife opinion to bring this much ?

PostPosted: Mon Jul 23, 2007 7:22 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

She doesn't really care, as long as there is enough room for the things she and our daughter need.

We have got a big car. Wink

(And I do not take all those lenses on a trip, just the ones with the "*"...)

I also think about which lens should I take . I worry about two reason

1) humidity I can't control under travel
2) to loose them

So as usual I bring good zoom like yours Tamron SP 70-210mm f3.5 and one fast lens like Olympus Om 50mm f1.4 nothing else.

Yes, I understand. I also constantly worry about these things.
But then I think, why not just use them?!
There are not that many sujets I like to shoot around my place, the best photos you can take on trips.

Besides, I do not have many expensive lenses, so losing a lens wouldn't be a disaster. Most of the lenses I use you can get for below € 50,-, some are a little higher. Only about 2 MF and 3 AF lenses are considerably more expensive.

I decided to use the lenses on as many occasions as possible. If I brake one or lose one, I at least had some fun with it. Wink

You have right in your point of view, in rare lens I try to get duplicate copy to make sure I able to bring them to a trip.

That's a good idea, Attila.

The only problem is, buying a copy for each rare and expensive (= very good) lens will cost a lot of money. That's some kine of dilemma, isn't it? Wink

Laughing Right, but I usually bring two bags already, both quite bulky.
Another even bigger one and my wife would think I had lost the last bit of sanity. Wink

Some strategy is called for here - instead of getting another bag and thus having three bags; sell the two smaller bags and get two bigger ones..... Wink

With any luck she might not notice....

Especially if you distract her with something nice and shiny...... Laughing

Laughing

Two bigger bags and something shiny?
Do you know how many lenses I could get for that?
And here we go again: http://forum.mflenses.com/viewtopic.php?p=12859

Fast maybe, but not at all acceptable. I would rather get rid of all my lenses!
(Just to set the right perspective, again.)

It's fair that they are aware in advance of what may happen to them. Laughing Wink

@ Orio:

Can't argue with that although I wonder what I'd do if faced with the dilemma of choosing between a hot date and a Distagon 2.8/21..... Laughing

Do you even have a doubt?

I would take the Distagon, but mainly because I am married and could not have a date anyway. Wink

The plan is simple, first get the Distagon, then go to a photo fan club, show it there, make female photographers interested, get a date. Wink

Yes, but size IS everything so they say, so a dinky Distagon just won't cut it.......
