estudleon - Yes, both have 15 blades.

no-X - I was told that zebra version is better but in what way I don't know. I like the look of newer preset...oh well. Smile

Yep, loads of blades all nice and shiny! Not sure how it would perform differently to the zebra, do they have different coatings?

Interestingly, the newer electric six blader has a red coating, much like my MC sonnar...

Here's a few quick snaps from the weekend Smile

The butterfly was sharpened a touch Smile Most were shot at f2.8 or f4.

Well, we have 4 types of Meyer 2,8/135's:

Oreston zebra preset. 16 blades.
Pentacon zebra preset 16 blades
Pentacon black preset (last) 16 blades.
Pentacon black MC 6 blades.

Am I right?

I think the 6 bladed one came in two types, Auto and Electric. I have both...the electric one has a different colour coating...red

wow...I learned something new about my m42 adapter with AF confirm chip. If I hold the shutter release (fully depressed), the shot will be taken immediately when I turn the lens focusing ring and get the AF confirm signal. It improves focusing accuracy BIG TIME! Very Happy

Providing the AF chip is accurate for that lens. Mine work ok with normal lenses but are too far out with long lenses.

I recently bought one of these from a thrift shop for $16. I wasn't sure what it was, but it looked cool and I took it home after having seen it there for a couple of months. I did some research on the web later, and then realized it was a M42 screw mount. I have a K-1000 and was going to sell an original K-mount adapter on Ebay, but now I think I'll keep it so I can use this lens.

$16 is quite a bargain. Is it a preset or a later version?

I don't know anything about these lenses, and not much more about photography in general.

The lens is really recessed. Is this a built-in hood? The M42 mount is removable. Were there other mounts you could get for it?

Now also for Nikon. Please check HK300's thread.

I was going to sell it, but I'm smitten and I haven't even used it yet(I'll do that tomorrow). Just a few days before I got it, I bought an old Pentax K-1000 kit that included a cool Pentax case, the basic 50mm 2.0 lens, and a Takumar 135 2.8. for $20. I bought that basically for the 135. The only 135 I had was by Aubell 2.8. So I'm going to put the K-1000, and the Aubell on Ebay to pay for the Tak.

Like I said, I was going to sell the Orestor, but I like the almost perfectly circular aperture. The only thing I've seen with a perfect aperture so far has been a beat up Wolensak Raptar copy lens that I picked up months ago which I use as a paper weight.

How does this lense stack up against the Asahi SMC Takumr 135mm F:3.5?

If barrel styling differences can be considered distinct types then there are many more; and besides, there is also the B-mount version in different cosmetic (and mechanical) styles.

By the way, the 100/2.8 and 135/2.8 Meyers are called Orestor, not Oreston.

Oreston was the name given to a 50mm and possibly the 29mm and Orestegor was used for the 4/200 and, I think, longer FLs.

They are more less same , most people prefer Pentacons due they have excellent bokeh.

Yes. I think the pre-set Pentacon and Jupiter-37 ale excellent lenses and their performance (resolution) is really very close to more expensive products like Takumars and Sonnars.
