I can buy a Nikon LS-2000 for 200 euros, from someone I know personally (so no Ebay).
He is a professional photographer, so the scanner has seen some use indeed, but he claims it is in good condition. He wants to buy a new, and faster, Nikon.
The LS-2000 is already old, it's electronics (so it will break eventually), and Vista support seems to be problematic. On the other hand, it is supposed to be a superior scanner for 35mm slides and negatives. So I am thinking whether I should go for it or not.
Any insights? Thanks _________________ Fujifilm X-Pro2 / Fujifilm X-T1 / some Sonnar & Takumar lenses |

I have a Coolscan LS 4000 ED and I am very satisfied with it. I don't even know how old it is. Nikon doesn't support the scanner software anymore and doesn't work on Mac anymore, but buying VueScan or some other scanning software took care of that issue. Vuescan scans faster as well than with the original software.
I have no idea about the aftermarket value of that scanner, but I sure would be interested in upgrading myself as well. I need a Coolscan 9000 or some other high-quality scanner that could scan 120 film. I am open to recommendations if anyone has ideas. _________________ Vilhelm

If you use both format this is a good deal I believe it, if you use only 35mm Nikon is better deal I think. _________________ -------------------------------

I examined many Flickr pictures, and I think the results of the 4990 are good enough for me. Besides, the Nikon only has a SCSI-interface, and support on Vista and future Windows versions might be problematic. _________________ Fujifilm X-Pro2 / Fujifilm X-T1 / some Sonnar & Takumar lenses |

Yes, right. That would be difficult. I look forward you pictures. _________________ -------------------------------

A steal!
Even if you didn't need one, that would be too good to pass up. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Here are some first samples (using the Epson software, mostly default settings)
The negatives are Kodak Gold 200, and the pictures were made using a Rebel Ti with a Canon EF 24-85 lens (my wife made them, so an AF lens )

The scans look better than the prints I got from the photo service.
And here is a test with the trial version of Vuescan. I think that is definitely better, especially when you look at the shadow details!
