Well the Nokia is some piece of kit! Very Happy It has all the bells and whistles one could ask for and lots of big numbers to show how capable it is, so I can't knock it.
But, from a camera point of view, it all boils down to two things;
The quality of the image sensor and the quality of the glass in front of it. Very Happy

From the camera point of view, I would never buy a camera that has a similar performance to that of a cell phone.
Either I would buy a real camera, or I'd buy a cell phone that is more versatile and means carrying one technotool in my pocket instead of two.
(and save money - because I would not have to buy a cell phone extra)

This is just too much and I do not see the need for this sensor size. I mean, I get the point of having the APS-C concept, not everyone can spend thousands on a fullframe body. Micro 4/3 reduced the crop-sensor body and made it much portable.

1"? Why?

1" because the camera itself is around the same size as other compacts that have 1/2.3 and 1/1.7, but the sensor is 1", thus it will have better noise performance, it will sound better in comparisons, and it will be more attractive to all, thus selling more. M4/3 may have reduced form factor coming from DSLRs, but I got rid of mine because it was still too big as a camera to have with you all the time; it doesn't fit in trouser pockets, meaning you need a bag, if you're carrying a bag, might as well carry a DSLR. The larger the sensor they manage to fit in compacts, the better I say.

And compacts have far better performance than cell phones at the moment, Orio Smile (with the possible exception of the nokia, but that's really a camera with a phone attached, and it doesn't have zoom or any form of useful manual controls to speak of). If a camera can take a photo like this, wouldn't you call it a "real" camera?:

The new Nokia camera will be a game changer. It won' be a threat to us mfl freaks, advanced amateurs or the pros but the man on the street won't see a reason to buy a PS camera when (and that's next year) a Nokia Phone with WP8 in combination with the new camera module starts selling to the masses.

And I'm not trolling, just wait and see.

I think it's a pretty interesting cam, but in order to win some parts of the cake, it needs to be cheaper than comparable system cams!

I Don't see all that difference (on paper) between this and some respected cameras like Fuji x10, and the price is in the same league as well.
So it doesn't really look that new or strange.
Neither I have ever read of an x10 compared to a mobile phone.

It costs, but if money were not a problem ( Laughing ) I'd possibly think of it as a second camera alternative to my hypotetic full frame dslr.

yes, though the Sony RX100 lacks the VF but it's about half of the size of the Fuji X10 with a sensor double the size
Nokia 808, or a N8 with sensor size in between these two is a viable option for a 'always carry', fixed lens compact camera
