i have switched to kodak gold and fuji 200 for color. it is less expensive than walgreens. the rope and yellow wildflowers are kodak, and, i think, much, much better than the walgreens images. store processing and scanning are all i've got ... Sad

Why?

( I don't ask if the digi cam is the 5D Mark III).

I'm really just getting started shooting with m42 lenses, but one of my first is still one of my favorites: S-M-C Takumar Macro 50mm f4 (also mentioned by a previous poster) on Pentax K200D. I tend to boost the ISO to gain depth of field, so please excuse the noise.

The first two images are full frame, the third is a crop of the 2nd shot.

I use this lens a lot for anything close-up.

Great pics, thanks for sharing.

Did you try the lens in non macro use?

Rino.

Thanks Rino!
It is my main lens for photographing items for eBay, but I have not used it for scenics, etc. Seems to me there are better choices (but still mostly Takumars) Smile

I should try it for some general photography and compare it with my Takumar 50mm f1.4, Pentacon 50mm f1.8, 55mm Taks (1.8 and 2.0) and Sears/Tomioka 55mm f1.4 .

My "must have" M42 list includes:

Practically any Pentacon lens (especially 29mm f2.8 & 135mm f/2.Cool
Practically any Yashinon lens (especially 200mm f/4 and 55mm f/1.4)
Practically any Mamiya Sekor lens (55mm f/1.8 and 135mm f/2.8 are great)
And of course the 3 Soviet gems (Industar 50-2 f/3.5, Industar-61 and Jupiter 85mm f/2)

I don't have experience of more expensive lenses (Zeiss etc) but all of the above are really great and pretty affordable. I own some of them and they are great additions in my arsenal.

It has one of the best or best super smooth focusing helicoid what I seen.Image quality is good as any 50mm good lens, but not exceptional.

In 2,8/29 I hadn't good experiences.

Which mamiya 135 lens do you have? DTL/TL or SX version?

Some members have an SX version, saying that it's very good.

And I have the previous TL 2,8/135 - all black one- and it's really very good. At wide open too.

Rino.

Pentacon 29mm is highly impacted by copy variation issue. I guess this is the reason why this lens get all time very different opinion. Personally I wasn't amazed too.

The 29mm f/2.8 is a bit inconsistent. On my Oly E-420 it's hard to get reliable metering but when you do, the colors are rich and the picture has a kind of a 3D feeling. On my E-3 I get better results though.

I do not own a Mamiya lens but my buddy does. His 135mm f/2.8 has a sliver barrel; I don't remember if it is the SX or DTL version.

I had the pentacon 30mm 3.5 lydith, extreamly sharp on APS-C, the aperture has10 blades. I sold it as thoughtthat it gave trouble with the 5d´s mirror, some sort of regret it but bought the yashica ml 35mm and I am happy again Wink

Hello!
I recommend Meyer Orestor 100mm f2.8 small and sharp.
Costs almost nothing ....

Another big fan. No need for f3.2 if good copy. Taken wide open:
