Mo-Fo, it would be very expensive here in the UK. Prices vary from country to country, even in the Age of Ebay, but that looks like way too much to me. Maybe £25 to £30 for one that looks like new would be about right in Britain just now.

I suppose the difference would be if I was a collector and blinded by passion I would get it without hesitation.Or like me starting to get an interest in lenses and buy the "name" and not the experience with the lens.

Well unless you are a collector, what can it do that any other 50mm lens can't...as you seem to still use film, it would be cheaper to buy say for an example:- a nikkor lens and camera body.

I suppose that aluminium body is what justifies that price. MoFo, if you want a nice cheap Tessar keep your eyes open on the vintage SLR listings in Oz Ebay, they quite often come attached to Praktikas and go for peanuts. The zebra finish looks heaps nicer anyway.

4x more than usual. This is a very underrated lens you can get for next to nothing especially if less good looking or come with a praktica camera.

I have 7 copies in 4 versions (2 exakta mount) , I never paid it them over 5-7 euros when alone , and 12-15 with praktica or exa bodies .... Only on flea markets .I'm now considering the fact that I'm becoming a rich man .... Wink
I find this lens overrated , I prefer the pentacon / oreston 1,8/50 .... When stopped down to f/8-11, a Domiplan shows very close results ... Mr. Green Very Happy

That is to expensive! You will get it with a bit of searching for around 30% of that price together with a Praktica camera.

The alu version in M42 is a bit more scarce than the Exakta one (the Exakta may still have outsold the Praktika before the Zebra age), but it is far from rare - it was the standard kit lens on their most popular models back then...

Priced for a collector who wants a close match to his body, including serial from the proper year (around 1960, rather close to the Zebra age). Anyone else would be nuts to buy at this price.

That is mind-bogglingly expensive ; you could get a Zeiss Planar for less.

My last CZJ Tessar cost me £2.50, which at the time was around US $5.

If you want a Tessar to use, and not because it's aluminium or whatever, this is one to pass gently by. But quickly.

On german ebay i did see this lens some days ago in M42 mount for 19 Euro in very good condition.

What you post here is a very expensiv price for that old glas.
Seek on german ebay from time to time.. you can get this for a far lower price than this.

That's also a single-coated Tessar from the 1950s or 60s. If you want a lens to use, the MC would probably be better.

As far as I know, there never was a multi-coated Tessar. Not from (either) Zeiss at any rate, unless we include the built-in Tessars on late Rollei and Contax/Yashica compacts. Tessar type rather than true Zeiss Tessar, but interchangeable and supposedly MC would be the Nikkor 45 mm f/2.8P.

From experience I'd tend to avoid the Zebra version of this lens; this release has a funky kind of a way to develop faults, usually the focussing helicoid drive.

Yes, there is one Prakticar 50/2.8 Tessar from CZJ, which has multi-coating.
AFAIK this is only multi-coating Tessar from CZJ, this is the reason one time
it fetched US$1,600 at evilBay. Shocked
