These are calved pieces of ice from the Fyles Glacier, one of the few
named places in an area of isolation. I did not "touch up" the images,
they are straight out of the camera and scanner. I did crop a little bit.

I guess I could have reduced the inherent saturation; however, the
blue coloration is straight out of the camera - good old Velvia. Wink
Velvia 50
Pentax 645
Pentax-A 120/2.8

those are magnificent, Larry.
I would not change anything od the saturnation. The blue is overwhealming especially in the first one (down).
I also like the bit of softness (from focus) in the first image, it gives a bit of a warm character to the icy scenery.

magic is also this piece of ice in #2 which looks like it is glooming ...

compositions are great, as always Wink

Cheers
Tobias

Excellent shooting (and selection) as usual, the first one brought to mind ghosts in a Japanese film.

I thought this was an error until I looked it up...wow not only great photos but I learnt something! Very Happy The colors are cool!
Definition =(Earth Sciences / Geological Science) (of a glacier or iceberg) to release (masses of ice) in breaking up
I was thinking calving as in cows giving birth... Laughing

Thank you all! The first image is one of 2 images I took of the little loop of ice. The first one was at f:16 for sharpness in the depth of field, but I liked the second one I took at the time, at f:5.6 in order to "soften" the ice a little. It looks less "harsh" than #2 in this post. It's all a matter of what a person wants to make things look like. Confused

Yes, mo...the calving of glaciers occurs especially when the glacier flows into the oceans. Those big "calves" are actually known as icebergs when floating out in the ocean.
