This doesn't belong in the Gallery, 'cos it's crap, but it deserves a place here as the first 4x5 this camera's ever shot.
The S.O.L. 150/4.5 lens flares like a 1970s denim factory in bright sun, even with a hood, so this is all a learning process. Next up, I'll try one of the other 9x12s with the Graflex back.
Film is Shaghai 100, which seems to be very prone to water marking - another thing to watch for next time. Also, the final result in PS wasn't as contrasty - PS has developed a habit of increasing the contrast on reducing for web sizes and I can't find a counter measure to that, except for reducing contrast before saving.
This is the old Priory in Kells, Co Kilkenny. Dating back to the 13th century for the most part, it was a huge centre for ecclesiastical matters in its day. Almost the nerve centre for religion in Ireland - until Henry VIII came along, that is. The place has been a crumbling wreck since then and only in recent years has a Govt Dept decided to halt the deterioration and spend some money on it.
What you see here is just a tiny part of the whole - it's impressive once you get into it. _________________ Dave - Moderator

I think it's a great shot, Dave! I clicked the thumbnail at work on my
laptop, but doesn't want to open here at home. Kudos for doing your
own developing, too! I hope to do my first roll(s) this coming Monday.

Cheers, Bill.
As an experiment it worked, but it's just the first step on a long journey. The lens shows promise and the lighting was fierce. I have a Eurynar to strip and try next, if I can get the thing apart. _________________ Dave - Moderator

I imagine this beast is tripod only, wouldn't want to try handheld shots
with it. Hope the Eurynar works out and do post if you get it going.

G,dayFarside,
It's great to see you going into the old style of photography"Film"!
And also to see the use of the older style large format camera!
Is the FrankenGeeKamera an equivalent of a Speed Graphic?
As I am interested in these cameras and have just purchased a Speed graphic 4x5.Your colour shot is great as well!

It is now...
http://forum.mflenses.com/the-offspring-of-an-ill-met-pair-t20459.html
The camera is an Ihagee Zweiverschluss Duplex and I didn't want to permanently modify it, so devised a mounting for Graflex spring back to it, using a focusing frame from a Welta 9x12. This allows me to use 4x5 film in three of my German 9x12s which share the same slide back dimensions. _________________ Dave - Moderator

I actually like that shot. It may not have the quality, but it does have a pleasing character. _________________ Casual attendance these days |
