Nandan Rao and Zach Weintraub here. We just finished a spec trailer for the feature film we're shooting this summer on the Canon 5D Mark II, cameraquest m42 adapter and screw mount lenses. Namely: Soligor 28mm/2.8, Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm/1.4, Jupiter-9 85mm/2, and a Vivitar 135mm/2.8 . With a bit of net behind the adapter we like the results. I hope you enjoy what we've done with the trailer:

isn't it hard to "follow focus" with ordinary camera lenses?

i keep hearing that the reason Arri, Panavision, and Red lenses cost so much is because they've got these focusing lever dongles to allow seamless follow focus, and because they don't "breathe.."

Thank you no-x.

Youtube is not available now but I watched vimeo b/w cine. The result looks professional and it's very interesting.

Breathing is a concern with non-cine lenses but it is generally less obvious on primes, and certainly something that is worth dealing with simply because we have no money for cine lenses. The good thing about these m42 lenses is that they all have really long focus travels, while following focus is very difficult with a canon zoom lens (travel is so short), it is fairly easy with these lenses.

Hope that answered your question?

Excellent stuff - best of luck with it.
Do you add a focus lever to any of your lenses?

no lever, just as they are, as you can see we're not doing to much crazy camera movement to make focus pulling anything complicated...

Yes that answers my question Smile

I'd love to see a Tair-11A used in a cine application though.. Shocked
