Sharper and more contrasty lenses are easier to focus. The focal plane just "pops" in viewfinder. It's one of the sign of good lenses. When I'm trying some new lens, it's the first thing I watch.

Gotta agree 100%, sometimes you switch lenses and immediately you sense the better lens by how much easier it is to nail the focus. However I do wonder how beneficial high contrast is in a scene that has a high dynamic range. Wouldn't the end result be more of the image is blown or underexposed? So maybe high contrast lenses favour the telephoto spectrum and lower contrast is in some respects preferable for the wider lenses where critical focus is not so important.

I just saw today the Amazon is offering the Sony version Vivitar 85/1.4 for 219.99, shipping included (US Only?). This is not a false alarm. I'd consider it at that price, but not this time of year for me.

I can't remember very well but it must be 29 or 34 frames.

Yikes. Do you think it was worth it? That lens has pretty good pop on its own.

It's not worth. Just, you have to be careful while taking 2nd photo must cover 30% of the first photo not to match other frames. If you do that, all frames will match perfectly! You can find more information from this link and i can help you how you must do this.

i think that..the Planar 85 1.4 is the best...
pro: wonderful colors and the separation plans is unknown to the Sonnar!
a wonderful 3d: the subject that pops out the screen!
i think that the 85L is more flat (less general contrast..but it has more creamy bokeh)
