1964 Summicron 50/2 on a M8

1953 CZJ Tessar T* 50/2.8

the badge with the name on it looks like its floating in air ( well it does to me!)

Nice, though the first two look overexposed.

Be gentle with me, this is the first time i dare to post a pic i think it has some "dimensionality" or 3D Smile

click on it to see 100% size

or is it just shallow DOF?

No, that has dimensionality Tomas, I like it a lot, what lens?

I am interested to note that the Tessar outperforms the Summicron in the dude's samples...

I disagree with a common description of the 3D effect ! For me isolating a subject is not having 3D.
Otherwise, 3D is easy to archieve : pick a luminous lens or with medium aperture but shoot very close.
No, for me, 3D is like when I look on the glass of a TLR.

My definition of 3D is more related with the concept of "presence" developped in the article I linked under :

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/bw_master_print.shtml

When the light suggest 3D..

Are there lens favoring that ? I don't know..
Are there film favoring that ? I don't know either..

But it seems that post processing can !!

My definition of a 3D image is when the subject appears to move in relation to the background as you move your head. All the images in this thread and every other thread are 2D.

Gotta love the color and sharpness of those old MF Pentax lenses. Great separation, and that 135's bokeh ain't too shabby, neither.
