That's why I said smaller, rather than lighter! Laughing My 35mm f4 weighs just under 133 grams without caps.

Apologies - I read your original comment in such a way it suggested the 4/35 was smaller than the 3.5/35 Embarassed

I did refer to it as a "humble" lineup...

At the camera fair in Novegro (Milano) yesterday there was a stand dedicated only to Asahi.
There were cameras on display, and books about the old Takumars.
Not being a Takumar user, I did not investigate further, but I am sure that Takumar fans would have loved that stuff.

Shocked I'd probably have wept with joy Shocked I'm going back to the Berlin camera fair in December to meet a collector who specialises in Asahi Optical Co pieces (and who doesn't charge stupid €€€), he's got some items on hold for me Wink

Okay, well it's been a while, but work has been busy and my free time has been precious.

These next additions to the thread are my 5Xmm lenses - from 50mm to 58mm, from oldest to most recent. It's not the complete lineup, and I'm still hunting, but I'll be highlighting the models as they were released - there were minor differences in some models, sometimes only cosmetic.

First up is the Asahi-Kogaku Takumar 3.5/50 (Model II). A preset lens with 4 elements in 3 groups, this was available between May 1953 and September 1954.

Following on from this is the Asahi-Kogaku Takumar 2.4/58. A preset lens with 5 elements in 3 groups, this 'Heliar' lens was available from November 1954 to April 1957.

Next, we have the Takumar 2/58. A preset lens, this 'Sonnar' design had 6 elements in 4 groups and was available from May 1957 to March 1958.

The Takumar 2.2/55 was available from May 1957 to May 1959, and was a preset lens with 5 elements in 5 groups.

This Auto-Takumar 1.8/55 was the only 'zebra' design model in the entire Takumar range. A semi-automatic lens, it has 6 elements in 5 groups and was available between May 1958 and May 1959.

The Auto-Takumar 2/55 was also semi-automatic and had 6 elements in 5 groups. It was available between 1959 and 1962.

And the last lens for now is the Auto-Takumar 2.2/55. With 6 elements in 5 groups, this semi-automatic lens was available between 1961 and 1963.

A huge word of thanks to Gerjan van Oosten and his meticulously put together book; 'The Ultimate Asahi Pentax Screw Mount Guide 1952-1977'. Seeking out these lenses would have been next to impossible without this book by my side.
