This is not a good idea.
The right move is to support this project.
They do not even have a limit for the donations...
Someone gives his free time for this.
Don't piss him off.

+1

Ok guys, don't quarrel Smile
Thanks for the file Nikos - I had no idea where to find Dani file anyway, he did not give a link
But I don't know if I have the nerve to backwards update my camera at the risk of damaging it.

I'm sorry Orio; I had uploaded a Magic Lantern file with 2.1.1 version... I edited the link because I wouldn't have uploaded...

If you need this link, send me a PM Wink

Thanks much Dani; but if I decide to use it, I will donate the money.
But I am hesitant to downgrade the firmware: what if my 5DII gets screwed up?
That would be much worse than not using the magic lantern...

Downgrading is safe. It would be very disappointing on the part of Canon if it failed.
Just verify the checksum of the file.

Normally, the camera itself should verify the firmware and refuse to install if something is wrong.
At least, this is what I would do if I had written the code...

Don't worry, I think it's very difficult your camera gets screwed up... Yesterday, I installed 3 different version of Magic Lantern, in this order;

Classic ML (for 2.0.8 )
AJ 5.9 (for 2.0.9)
Unified ML for 5D2 2.1.1 - closed beta

... and I haven't any problems. Although I have uninstalled ML and I have installed 2.1.2 Canon version.

I would want to try Focus Peaking but it's different to Sony Focus Peaking. It's not the same, Focus Peaking of NEX is better.

Regards.

This is an awsome tool Smile

I'm having trouble making the rack focus work on the 5d2...should it work?
If yes, can some one explain a little better how to set it up?

Thanks!

Hopefully he would find some better videos than this one.
This is one of the sloppiest tutorial videos that I ever saw.

Yihaaa!! ... I finally did it and it's successful! ... but on my 60D Smile

I donated to Alex and received the download links.
I asked for the 5DII ML but they also gave me the unified ML for xxD series including 60D. So I could try it on my 60D first.
I read the installation manual and my 60D should use 1.1.0 firmware. Downloaded it from Canon site and updated the firmware.

Next I formatted the SD card.
Copy all the files and folder on the zip files to the SD card.
Set the shooting mode wheel to M (manual), turned on the camera .... prayed Smile ... and run the update firmware menu .. and ... just in few seconds the installation was completed! Turn off the camera and ... the show began! Smile

So far I've only tried :

- Focus peaking : the red dot is too small and the accuracy is less than using magnification/zoom box (I used the 50/1.2 lens at wide open ... the dof is too thin for this feature) BUT it will be very helpful if we need to shooting fast to capture fast moments

- Zebra pattern : very helpful to show the overexposed and underexposed area in the frame

- Direct zoom to 10x : we can still use normal zoom when using live view but we can set the zoom straight to a one step 10x magnification instead of 2 steps (5x then 10x) so we can switch faster between zoomed view and normal view.

- Partial zoom : only small boxed area on the image is zoomed, so we could still see the whole image. But the magnification on that box is only 1:2 (= 2 times ?)

I need to explore it more ... Smile

Well I've installed it for my 5dM2 just for the focus peaking and pip zoom. Oddly I had both working at the same time, focus peaking then when I press the zoom button it provided the pip zoom and hid the peaking - but now the zoom button triggers the old zoom, and I have to enable just the peaking or just the zoom.. not both.

Also when zooming in on a photo it jumps to 10x pretty quickly! I haven't had a look at the settings for this one. ( fixed the's a setting for this..)

It seems nicely accurate though.

I did have a moment where I had a blinking from the red light whilst it was 'off' - this was probably in the time I had a look at the interval photo mode... so maybe it was still doing something, I fixed it by reseating the battery.

ML is going to be ported to the "old" 5D as well, obviously without lots of things due to different hardware but you could have probably intervalometer and these sort of stuff.
