Ok, this is just to try, as this lens gets popular as hell, so this thread would be for all users of this lens to post their pix, and discuss. If moderators do agree of course.

Mine's has number 5825901.

See it's a Zeiss Cool

thanks, I see you also have this lens so you know about
on this crop from the same pic, you can see that it is not so perfect
halo around objects, aberrations that give a impression of shake, purple fringe on the stylo and mobile phone,...
this was just a test, but it is nice to know that you can use it wide open if needed

Here's some old ones previously posted @ f2.8, where I find the lens has its sweet spot for sharpness and 3D.

Great ! thanx to all for their input and pix posted Very Happy

Karabud you have really a nice model !

Here are two more examples taken last week. One is the beginning of the ... beer tasting, the last is the end. Two extremes settings, and the lens was a great help at night, producing perfect blur in all cases. jpeg files by the way.

The first night shot is really good ^ . A little question : what are the main differences between "old" C/Y Zeisses and the new ones ? please don't say the price Wink I'm still hesitating to get a ZE version. Thanx

Planar 50/1.4 is "A" and Contax RTS is "A". Planar 50/1.4 + Contax RTS is "A+". I envy.

That's a nice equipment indeed, i spotted a 135 Sonnar on the very right. RTS 3 looks great with the Planar, so does my RX Very Happy

The ZE has 9 aperture blades, which is quite a big advantage over the Contax which has only 6. When you stop the Contax down a little you can quickly get (imo ugly) hexagonal OOF highlights.

Also, ZE has electronic aperture, so you can always focus wide open and never have problems which you get with stop down metering.

If you will have much use for a 50/1.4, I would get the ZE.

Thanx for the info Aham, i am primarly a 50mm user, so i think that by the end of the year i'll get the ZE. Stop down metering isn't an issue so far, besides i have 2 Contaxes bodies so the Planar is still used.

My 5 cents here. Serial No 674XXXX C/Y AEJ. I especially like performance at f/2 anf f/4.

f/4 (or may be 5.6 not sure)

f/2

f/2

f/2

100% crop of the above image:

f/1.4

I have also found Planar is nice at f/.4 and infinity. There are lots of CA but the image still very useful

I have a 809xxx MM Version of the Planar 50/1.4 - but still no images on the computer Smile
I did only few shots as tests for the Zeiss 3D effect - but they are still on the CF card.
