I guess, even as a Leica (and Nikkor) lover I need to admit that this is an absolutely fantastic lens. Wink

Excellent shots, gentlemen!

Looks cool, doesn't it?

While it looks like a leaf that is falling, it was in fact a leaf that was suspended in mid-air by some kind of thin bug thread (some kind of caterpillar maybe? Probably not spider thread).

Not to say it was stationary and easy to shoot. Hardly. It was quite windy, and the thread must have been at least 3m long... the leaf was hanginf rom a branch that was way over my head.

Which meant that this leaf was dancing around all over the place. I sat there mesmerized by the scene, then furiously shot about a 100 frames (thank god to digital), and this is one of the 15-20 frames or so that came out above decent in terms of sharpness, etc. Smile

Thanks!

Hard to believe, that this shot was made with f3,5!

Piotrek: Once again your macro shots have amazed me. That dragonfly is on another level.

Today was one of those days when nothing seems to go right, and I managed to miss focus, exposure or composition despite shooting over a hundred photos.

Well, one is worth uploading, it shows really well the bokeh this lens can produce

Spectacular shots gentlemen!

I now want this lens (too)!
Help me a bit.
1. This comes in Minolta mount? Which is the recommended adapter for a 5D2 ?
2. How much does this gem weight?

I don't want to sound harsh but as replies to your question are already available by using the forum search...
This is a "post photos discuss lens" thread. The Mflenses forum has sth like 29 Macro APO-Lanthar topics on this forum
and only 2 of them focus on images.

Here's a quick reply for you as a newcomer.

1. Lens is discontinued since 2003. Yes, it was available in Minolta mount but it is very rare in that mount,
less than 1 000. Search on eBay is your best (and almost only) chance to find one. It was also available in Canon EF mount,
expect to pay 1500 to 1600 EUR for one in Canon EF mount. Weight is 690grams, easily found with Google.

Recommended adapter for 5D Mk II

No BS, only pics Smile

Ok, those are too big, but I do it on purpose.

This one was shot wide open, but the VL125 shows sharpness and microcontrast like a normal tele stopped down to f/8.

This one is a 50% crop:

Bokeh and color, more areas where this lens shines. These are shot in sunny weather, WB 5200K and no saturation added (color mode is Standard).

It's quite hard to describe bokeh, so here it is from wide open to f/8. Exposures are not completely comparable, they're all hand-held but focus point is the same.

f/2.5

f/4

f/5.6

f/8

Last bokeh shot of today, f/4 and defocused on purpose

The 125 is good in the bokeh department, eh? Thanks for sharing!

Here are my samples from today, from my new "studio". I used two 30-year old Courtenay studio flashes pointing to the sloping ceiling of my attic.

More in the exploring bokeh series. All shot wide open at near minimum focusing distance.

Sorry guys the following pics were not captured with CV125. It was CV90 instead. I just cannot resist to not share. Lanthar 90/3.5 shows very similar behaviour for a really decent price.
