You need good mechanical intuition and good tools to clean out an oily diaphragm on the 58/1.4. It's not harder or easier than other RE. Auto-Topcors.

It would be necessary to remove the optical block from the lens, and then unscrew the front and rear sections from the diaphragm assembly. Then you at least have to flood clean that with naphtha, although that may not be enough. You may have to remove the front ring and clean each blade with naphtha by hand.

However, due to the design, if you don't want to have to do it again soon, you would want to split the helical, remove all lube, and then re-lube with proper lube that won't separate into goo and volatile oil. Getting the helical properly reassembled is tricky, many starts to the threads. The design of the 58/1.4 has a much shorter path from the helical to the diaphragm blades than other Topcors.

I'll bet that Eric Hendrickson (http://www.pentaxs.com) would be willing to do it, and would charge a reasonable price. It's not a Pentax, but he's got lots of experience, and there's no real surprises in this lens.

Thank you for the informations. I don't think I have the skills to disassemble the whole thing. I will look if I find someone in Germany that could do it for a good price.

Well, it's fixed, and it's probably the last serial number known for a silver 1.4...

Looks beautiful.
Congratulations.
Possibly not the last known serial.
Here is one that seems to be later.

Nice. This is indeed the last known serial number for silver 58/1.4 112series with centimetre marking. Does it have a kidney-shape grooving on the back side?

Btw what are the differences in optics among 58/1.8 variants mentioned by the OP?

I watched this go recently on the bay, too rich for me at £142, but I believe its the latest serial for any 100mm 2.8, a fair margin later than the last ones in Antonetto. It also has the focus limiter.

I found an earlier SN 933166 on an auction (unfortunately not my own collection....) that appears to open up this range quite a bit, comparatively.

This is a great find. Like Dog I don't know what to make of this. Antonetto & Russo claimed that only 2,000-3,000 were made but here we have a serial number in a 10,000 range. I guest it must be a minor variation.

Do you have any photos or a reference link?

According to Antonetto & Russo, of the four versions only the 99 & 116 series share the same optics.

I just joined this forum, and it's my first forum experience. So I'll give it a try... I have read a number of entries on mflenses before, and it's been a great source of info on various lenses I've considered picking up.

Tonight I was searching for information on the topcor 2.5cm f3.5 black lens, and I found a serial number listing for this v3 black version in this part of the forum . I was wondering if anyone knows if serial number 933166 is truly the first black version made of roughly 700 total. I would really like to verify this as I just bought this lens with serial number 933166 from an online auction. Are there any topcor experts out there that can verify this for me. I had no idea about the serial number until after I purchased it. I picked it up due to the sample shots and comments for a retro focus ultra wide lens on my a7ii.

Funny, I looked back a little in this discussion, and I see the very lens I just purchased a couple of entries back.
