Another discovery. Black Navy 87-205 was not mentioned by A&R.

Are you sure it was not 7505231?

Double checked and it`s definitely 75055231.

My one and only RE Topcor is a black 35mm f2.8 serial number 7420672. It has a silver rim to the front of the filter ring and just beneath the hood bayonet. Text is all white and all capitals (except f and mm):

RE AUTO TOPCOR 1:2,8 f=35mm TOKYO KOGAKU 7420672

Green dot to indicate focus position. White text for meter scale, aperture and depth of field markings. Orange text for feet scale.

This may be a new version:
http://kevincameras.com/gallery/v/topcon/lens/100_2.8/7516194/DSCN4807.JPG.html No 'N'
http://kevincameras.com/gallery/v/topcon/lens/100_2.8/7516194/DSCN4810.JPG.html But Infinity lock.
The Topcon Story says the last serial # was 7511339, but this lens is 7516194

That particular lens is already in the first post. I don't know about the infinity lock. What it is for and is it common among RE Auto Topcors?

PostPosted: Fri Apr 11, 2014 12:35 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

The infinity lock is normally on the Navy versions, so in the heat of battle the lens doesn't get focused closer and ruin shots.
My black 100/2.8 has no infinity lock, so it's definitely a different animal.

Thanks Cavin. Somehow I no longer received the notification so I missed the latest posts.

I am confused by these two lenses. I need to double check with the book.

If we assume that the lenses had not been tempered with, neither fits especially well in Antonetto&Russo's framework.

The "a" sample has lower case lettering, FL in cm, and most importantly has a kidney-shape grooving on the back. Therefore it seems to fit the description of 112B v1. However, it is in black...

The "b" sample also has lower case lettering and FL in cm but already lost the grooving. So it is likely an early sample of 112B V1(variation) before the FL unit changed to cm.

Thanks. I have updated the list. Though with the price I was half expected this to be a gold-plated sample.

F series lenses were Topcon "automatic-diaphragm" answer to the similar system from Zunow, Canon and Minolta. They can be easily identified by the distinctive clear depth-of-field window. The lenses, introduced with Topcon RII/Beseler C, were produced for only a short period of time before being replaced by the now famous RE Auto Topcors. Yes they are supposed to be good.

I do now know what the H stands for.

Probably, H stands for HITACHI as those lens are order by HITACHI along with the Topcon RS camera. See the bottom of this link http://www003.upp.so-net.ne.jp/Topconclub/lens4.htm .

Thanks Calvin. Looks like these H-F lenses are quite scarce!

Hi, I have just acquired a RE,Auto-Topcor 1:3,5 f=2.5cm Tokyo Kogaku Japan 9367055 in Silver.
I have read many places that it should have a filter size of 62mm, but I cant get any om my 62 size hood on?
It is as if it the hood is a little too big.

The filter ring looks unharmed.

Is there others who have experience with that there should be a version with a different filter size?

KR

A&R also stated that the lens took 62mm filters but I believed it was wrong. The lens uses 62mm push-on rubber caps but not 62mm filters. My copy does not even have filter threads.

If you need to use filters you will have to look for the original rear-mount filters. There were 10 of them. If you have the leather case, check under the lid first.

It takes rear mounted filters as Tao said, it usually comes with a UV fitted as standard on the rear, have a look.

If you need a hood, check ebay for the Topcor Series 9 clamp on hood/filter holder. The same one fits both the 25mm and the 20mm though will be named for each lens, it`s identical.

Don`t pay over the odds though some folk are looking for ridiculous money for these hood/filter holders. The 25mm has no filter screw at the front so requires this or a home made system.
