Good to see good ol' Carsten on the other side of the glass Wink

What do you mean? Better on this side than on the other one? So that you do not have to look at pictures that I have taken?? Mad

Wink Laughing Just kidding, Orio, you know what "deliberate misunderstaning" is, don't you? Wink

Thank God, Henry did not post the 100% crop. You can see how superficially I shaved that day. Laughing

Hi,

My first post here, I couldn't find a "present yourself" topic, so I say "hi" to everybody here Smile

Informed and motivated by this excellent forum & topic, I bought a Falcon 85/1.4 that should be identical to the Samyang. On a Nikon mount.

However, the lens sits loose on my Nikon to 4/3 adaptor that receives all my original Nikkor glass without any problem. The Falcon seems to sit firm on any original Nikon mount, so it must be a question of very small differences in tolerance.

I have now fixed the problem by sticking some paper tape to the lens mount, and it now sits firm Very Happy

I find the optical quality and the bokeh of the 85/1.4 very very nice !

Hey! Smile

I got a Nikon one, to get it with a focus alert adapter on my Canon 40D. It has good sharpness, when you get the point of desire. If i may show two pictures, they're between F2.8 and F4 - i can't remember, sorry. The models are from the Wilhelma, a nice botanic and animal park in Stuttgart/Germany.

Greetings,
Seb.

No, unfortunately it doesn't have a chip, but he may be able to add one himself.

After years waiting for prices of Nikkor 85/1.4 MF lenses to drop, then being rewarded last year with a hefty price increase on 30-year-old-lenses, I finally gave up and bought a Samyang (Rokinon) last December. I played with it quite a bit on a short vacation in January, but have had very little time to play with it since.

Amusingly, the first thing I did was screw up a shot. I snapped this the day after I got the lens. I was in a hurry, thought I'd opened it up all the way on aperture priority, and had to handhold it; not a tripod in sight.

Later when I looked at it, I liked the color, but was a bit disappointed that it wasn't sharper. Of course, for me to handhold at 1/30th with an 85mm lens, I couldn't expect it to be too sharp. Then I noticed that it was taken at f/2.8.

Apparently, the aperture ring was a bit stiff. I set the f/stop by feel, and only got it to f/2.8. It might have been actually sharp at f/1.4 @ 1/125. Lesson learned.

Now that the craziness of the past few months at work is past, maybe I can spend a little more time with the Samyang.

Next time I do a city night shot, I'll have it at f/1.4, or use a tripod, or both.
