Interesting - which Pro-Tessar do you have? I thought they were all afocal converters that needed the optical section embedded in the Contaflex bodies in order to work . . . but I could be wrong. _________________ Stephen

Steven you are right. but you see I used the lens as and add on. I hoped that I would be able to get a full shot of a silver dollar. but the coin is to big . I can only get about half of the coin. so I have purchased a pro Tessar 4/115mm. The lense, I used for the penny is a Pro Tessar 4/80mm attached to a sansung. I hand held it I have to make a adapter to hold the lens in place and the photos should improve. the quality of this lens speaks for itself. I am going to adapt this lens to work on my Nikon d7100. I have to wait for some pieces to come from the USA and china. I have also purchased a Tessar M 1 to 1 macro lens see if I can make this work. I will say a again unbelievable glass these pro Tessar add ons have a nice day _________________ Rockycarter |

The old Miranda SLRs used a unique lens fitting and I'm not sure if there's ever been an adapter for your camera. Some "Googling" will turn up one if it actually exists. Those lenses enjoyed a good reputation back in the 1960s but I have a feeling you might only be able to adapt them to mirrorless cameras. Good luck, though ! _________________ Stephen

Stephen I have only started in January to use a Nikon d7100 and a canon t1i . it has been quit a learning curve. I still have a lot to learn I studied the Cambridge camera and lens tutorial course. before I retired i did a lot of Ariel photography. high resolution video recorders and thermal vision. so I did not learn a lot about camera. if I had to have a photographer in the helicopter. I just got the my company to send me one. we had about 5 of them working for us. I wished I had learned more about camera. if you were to buy one of these mirror less camera. which one would you choose. I have been thinking about a Fiji x t 1. also a Sony ar7II. have you ever tried one of these just wondering and if you had a choice which one would you buy. I was thinking on this forum is there any place where camera are compared any help greatly appreciated _________________ Rockycarter |

I'm sure you'll get lots of advice about which mirrorless camera make and/or model is "best" You'll almost certainly know already that they come in different formats (Micro 4/3, APS-C and Full-frame) with the Full-frame ones being typically way more expensive than the others. I suppose if you want to specialise in close-up work then the benefits of Full-frame are reduced because you're not looking for the wide angle panorama sort of picture. I think the main aspect to think about is what you want to photograph rather than agonising over the so-called ultimate capabilities of different models. I still use a Lumix G1 which is now "out of date" but it does well for the things I like to photograph.
If you live anywhere near a good camera store, go and handle as many as you can. The size of your hand, the length and thickness of your fingers all influence how a camera feels in use. Some cameras seem to have been designed for "micro-people" and others for 2-meter tall bodybuilders . . . All will produce excellent results though. _________________ Stephen

many thanks Stephen . well I have found a fix for the soligor lens. I think until I try the lens on the canon and Nikon. that way I will see the results. see I am working very close to the coins. I believe this lens will work on these camera. I could be wrong but I will see just have to wait for a few more parts. I will see how the pro tessar does on these camera as well it works on the Samsung as a add on. so when I complete this lens. I believe it will produce great images. have a great one _________________ Rockycarter |

I have all the pieces but the mount. that will be here in 3 weeks. last week crossed the border and picked up the rest of the parts plus rolleiflex to dismantle. I have that all done. I have everything ready except for the mount. I did the math so I know where to set the lens on the Nikon to focus at infinity. I know the distance to get it to focus close up. I will also put the complete lens on a bellows. to see how far I can take the lens and still have good focus. hope this all works have a great one _________________ Rockycarter |

From infinity to ~0.5 m this is the best lens, IMO, in the Rollei SL 26 line. I have never tried it for real macros.
I have adapted it to my Sony NEX and you can see some sample photos here:
http://forum.mflenses.com/rolleiflex-sl26-lenses-on-a-sony-nex-camera-t65285,highlight,%2Bsl26.html
My adapter has a built-in tube extension for close-up, intended firstly for the 80mm Pro-Tessar because its native MFD is only 2m.
Good luck with your adapter, rockycarter! I know it's not an easy one. |

thank you dan very much for sharing your link. I see how you built your mount great idea. a slip tube with a locking thumb screw. excellent way to make your mount. I have got together some material to build mind. I want to make a focusing helicoid. I believe this should work well also. if not I will build similar to you mount. the registry distance on the Nikon. I should be able to get the complete lens to focus to infinity. plus close up I will just have to keep checking my math. I am really interested in try the macro's with this lens. I used the front element as and add on to a Samsung. I hand held it. I know if I build a solid mount for that Samsung as well it will work well. Dan you did a great job on that mount and you are a very talented photographer. I really like those images again thank you for shareing _________________ Rockycarter |

Dan I was wondering have you ever thought about adapting one of these camera lens sets or maybe you have. Canon EXEE. I purchased one of these camera and lens set. Standard lens: EX50mm f/1.8 Wide angle: EX35mm f/3.5 Portrait: EX95mm f/3.5 Telephoto: EX125mm f/3.5 . I would like to do this project maybe this winter. I have some ideas as to how I would like to do this. when I do this I will put up photos as I go. your input would be greatly appreciated. I am a member on a another forum there are some members. there that are very knowledgeable about camera and lens. I count on them a lot. so hopefully if you have done this with this camera and lens setup. would you like it very much. if you could please share that as well again thank you _________________ Rockycarter |

First, thanks for the kind words.
Yes, I have adapted the Canon EX lenses to the E-mount. The adaptation was more difficult than the one made for the Rollei SL26 lenses. The Canon EXEE camera has an electric diaphragm (EE=Electronic Eye) activated from within the camera and the adapter had to provide both a diaphragm and a focusing helicoid for all the lenses. That, combined with the fact that the rear group of lenses (the fixed one) is included in a block of metal containing the diaphragm, made things a lot more difficult. But finally I succeeded in making the adapter.
The good news is that this Canon lenses are, all of them, very nice, indeed. I like their IQ very much and I appreciate them even more than the Rollei SL26 lenses, in spite of being bigger and heavier.
You have here a sharpness test made with the EX 50mm on the 24 MPX APS-C sensor of the NEX-7:
and some 100% details:
And one made with the 95mm lens:
and the 100% details:
I really don't know why I haven't used this lenses more - I have just forgotten them in a drawer.
Now that you mentioned them hopefully I'll take them out more often. |

Dan all I can say is wow. these photos are incredible. this lens preforms unbelievable the clarity is sharp. I don't know much about the camera you are using. what I see here is a combination that preforms excellent the lens, the camera and yourself. I have the lens removed from the canon now. I want to study it a bite before. I try to put together A mount. I want to come up with a way to keep the aperture so I can set it manually. well later this fall thank you Dan for sharing. excellent photos the photo with the pro tessar of the pump is incredible. to be able to see the depth in the images very good. the camera you have preforms very well to I must say. thank you _________________ Rockycarter |

Kriss, how do you use your EX lenses on a600? Have you made an adapter including the fix rear group or you only use the front, detachable groups?
My 4 lenses have the original hoods and leather cases as well and you are right, the hoods have a nice, older style fixing system very useful and nice on other lenses, too. |
