The past friday i received this lens. Is very nice and externally is in excellent-mint condition. Unfortunately, haze is visible an one of the internal elements, which, I suppose, that it´s the reason of the lack of brightness, contrast and, probably, the C.A . The colors I believe that they are good.

The first shots I did with bad light last weekend.

I concur, the Helioplan is pretty fantastic still today.

Mine had a fungus but a photorepairer friend opened and cleaned it very easily (it's a tessar scheme). For sure it worths a little expense for a CLA.

Shocked Shocked Yes!! Shocked Shocked

I will have to clean the lens. Or to buy other one. Laughing
In close day I will receive a Primagon and I expect to be lucky more.

I have cleaned my lens by a specialist. contrast and sharpness have improved markedly, in my opinion. These first test shoots were done about three weeks ago.

Merry Christmas!

I picked up my Helioplan by my repairman - it had hazy inner element and mechanical problems. Unfortunately, it was not only haze, but the repairman found out, that previous owner tried to clean it, scratched the V layer and assembled the lens in a wrong way.

Majority of my V Meyer lenses has damaged inner V layer (manual Primoplan 58/1.9, Telefogar 90/3.5, Helioplan 40/4.5 and Trioplan 100/2.8…), but it seems, that performance isn't affected. These early lenses have a simple optical design with only a few air/glass surfaces, so the old mediocre coating was possibly more a marketing than optical feature.

Anyway, the Helioplan is nicely sharp in center, but corners are weaker. I didn't find any form of CA. Just like other Meyer triplets (e.g. Trioplan 50/2.9). But there is one difference to Trioplans - bokeh at full aperture is smoother and OOF discs are soft and not ring shaped. I really like it Smile
