Awesome Bill! Did you get the silver version, or the black? What a GREAT piece of glass for the price...wow.

It is the silver version, which is what I wanted! The lens looks far more
impressive in silver, at least to me.

Orio has pics of the lens in either Marketplace or MFL club.

I am happy about the good service of the Italian Post, the lens arrived in 10 days normal shipment (no express), and with one weekend and the Thanksgiving day in between, not counting Thanksgiving day it means 9 days with weekend inside.

Italian Post has a very underserved bad reputation, on the contrary I find it very efficient and fast.
99% of the times the cause of mail delays here are the totally inefficient Italian customs offices, which have nothing to do with the Post.
I had this normal mail packet delivered to USA in 9 days if we exclude Thanksgiving, and I had a normal mail packet delivered to Japan in 5 or 6 days weekend included. Australia was about two weeks if I remember correctly.

I think people forget how far "down under" Australia is. One of the longest
if not *the* longest flights I've had was flying from Sydney to LA,
something like 25 hours nonstop.

Yep, Italian post is great! I didn't expect this till at least Wednesday of
next week, soonest.

Yes! The silver version! It's what I would have picked, as I don't have any silver lenses yet. I love those old aluminum/chrome/whatever lenses, they have a fine character and look magnificent on the camera.

And...I have a feeling we'll be seeing some magnificent images from the lens in the near future.

I'm feeling a bit green Bill! If you don't post any pictures from the H-40 how will I know whether you're strong enough to left this monster off the ground? Laughing

Orio, maybe they are inefficient, but I think in these dangerous times you should feel more safe and secure knowing that they definitely check international mail entering Italy, even if it does delay items. I don't know whether or not Royal Mail do it here - there's never any sign that anything has been opened.

OK, Peter, I heard that! Laughing Here's my first timid efforts with this huge
heavy lens:

lets have a show of hands who can pick out the shot that was done wide
open... Laughing

And yes, lousy rainy weather the next two days. Sad

Orio, forgot to thank you on the phone about the front lens cap, thanks!

Take #2 shows the great potential of this lens, when the lighting is right, this lens can really sing.

Bill, that was my duty, unfortunately I had no M39 rear cap to provide you with. They are incredibly scarce, I only have two of them and five or six M39 lenses. I noticed a California ebay seller who has them, but he was away I think until December.

Congrats, Attila, #1 was wide open, windy, and no hood yet. Wink

Orio, about the M39 endcap, no biggie, I'll use an M42 with the ring
adapter you provided. Smile

Carsten, yes, this is a great lens! This is the preset model, too, took me
a little time to suss out which one was the focus ring. Laughing Can't wait to
try it in better weather!

To have this lens feeling like me to have a very good sport car, this lens one of the king of lenses. So Bill I strongly believe you made one of the best decision. I wish you have better weather and I keep looking your shoots.Do you have split screen in your Olympus E-300 ?

Attila, real men don't need split screens, I'm kidding. Laughing What do you
recommend in a split screen? Maybe when you get your e300 I can
duplicate your modifications.

I'm shooting right out-of-the-box stock, no mods.

Bill

Was hard to me to catch right focus without split screen, you made nice pictures I thought you use also some focus confirmation tool like a split screen. I am planning to buy a focus confirmed M42 adapter for my Olympus E-300 to make focusing easier to the kids.

So the E-300 is a Christmas gift for the girls? Cool Exclamation
With the lens collection that you have, it would be great if you could make your daughters passioned to photography!

The more I see of this lens the more attractive it gets - but I have a bunch of new ones already to et to know now the weather is cleared a little. Thanks for the samples and it looks as though you are going to enjoy. For size and weight I just received the Sonnar 180/2.8 pentacon fit. What a monster.

The good news for you is that's not only a monster in size, but also a monster in quality!
