After receiving the Helios 40, I was searching high and low for a UV filter for it, but there simply wasn't any UV filter in 66mm. I tried 67mm, but the filter simply does not fit.

At the same time I was also searching for a step up ring, 66mm to 67mm or to some other common size like 72mm or 77mm but again my search through the net did not resulted in anything.

To make a long story short, since I am not a mechanic, here is my simple approach.

Here is what. you need:

(i) a 72mm mount without glass or in my case I am using a 72mm to 77mm step up ring. Any advantage of one comparing to the other. I don't think so. The reason I use a step up ring is because I have one sitting around.

(ii) double sided tape
(iii) some foam
(iv) a correct size UV filter (depending on what you used in (i) above

Do note you might need to put some force in order to push the adapter filter into the body.

Once you get it in, here you have it



and now you can even put a standard size filter and a hood.

Excellent Alex! I believe this is a missing tool on market and many Helios owner will love it . They can use UV filter from now as a transparent lens cap.

Count me in. I am also looking for a 67mm to 63mm ring to screw in a 63mm anamorphic adapter onto a 67mm lens, but I know this one is highly unlikely as no one but me probably needs one.

The difference is irrelevant - the threads can be 66mm and 72mm, 66mm and 52mm, anything.

Orio, maybe you could use a 66mm-67mm step up then a standard 67mm hood? Custom make for 1 unit will be very expensive even if it is possible to make.

it would be possible, but i would probably need to make 20pcs at least.
Also, having 66mm hood will still not solve the filter issue. Some people like filters ... Very Happy

Oh yes, I would prefer a stepupring ø 66 to 67 mm too. It is much more versatile and I have a metal lens hood ø 67 already.

I was just wondering to myself when someone would ask this question and I saw this thread.

The answer is very simple really.

I have an adapter I got off ebay for very little which screws right in and I take a 67mm hood on my H40.

On second thought I think I'll let the excitement brew a bit before I post the solution. Once out, the prices of these rings will probably go up... Idea

Hmm... just read the 66-67mm thread, and I have to say Alex's product is well priced... so its a good solution too ! So I'll just slink away now.
