I really want to use this lens for portraits, but that hasn't happened yet. In the meantime here are the -not so interesting I think- first results.

Most of these were shot wide open, except no. 3 (f/5.6).

wide open at 1.5? wow. also like how the light shines off the street lamp tops in 3. cant wait to see portraits. ive really been lusting a fast 85, just too expensive....

Thanks, yes, wide open!

A fast 85 too expensive? Maybe, but at the moment I have about 15 different 70-90mm lenses faster than f/2. And I like each one of them... Smile

i just now did a search on ebay for 85mm 1.4 (or 1.5) any mount, under $250. result 0! actually, there were 2 nikons just getting started around $200, will end up much higher. as opposed to my jupiter 85/2.0 that i got for under $100!

I think the Samyang 85mm 1.4 sells new for approximately that price.

I too would like to see a list and, if possible, any urls on MFLenses of any in action other than those listed below.

Your bag of lenses list only has:
- SMC Pentax-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited
- Asahi-Kogaku Takumar 83mm f/1.9 (modified M37 version)
- Super-Takumar 85mm f/1.9
- S-M-C Takumar 85mm f/1.8
- Carl Zeiss Jena 80mm f/1.8 Pancolar
- Meyer Gorlitz Primoplan 7,5cm f/1.9 (uncoated pre-war)

I have now looked in a folder of various downloaded pix and found shots of the following lenses that Peter had at least at one time. But it still does not add up to 15. (He said he only borrowed a SMC Pentax-A* 1/1.4 85m for making comparisons so I do not count that one. Nor do I count the SMC M 85 f2 since 2 is not <f2. )

Enna Ennalyt 85mm f/1.5
Accura Supertel TC 1:1.9 f=85mm preset T-mount.
80mm f/1.8 Komura
75mm f/1.5 Biotar
85mm f/1.5 Cyclop (Helios-40 innards)

I do have the SMC-M 85/2 on my list; I should have said <= f/2 Wink

Let's see what I currently have in the 70-90mm range, faster than or equal to f/2:

01. Asahi-Kogaku Takumar 83mm f/1.9
02. Asahi Super-Takumar 85mm f/1.9
03. Asahi S-M-C Takumar 85mm f/1.8
04. SMC Pentax-FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited
05. Cyclop 85/1.5 (Helios-40 innards)
06. Sankyo Kohki Komura 80mm f/1.8
07. Sankyo Kohki Komura 85mm f/1.4
08. Accura Supertel Tc 1:1.9 f=85mm
09. Jupiter-9 2/85
10. Meyer Görlitz Primoplan 7,5cm 1:1.9
11. Carl Zeiss Jena 75mm f/1.5 Biotar
12. Carl Zeiss Jena 80mm f/1.8 Pancolar
13. Canon 85mm f/1.8 S.S.C.
14. Canon 85mm f/1.2 S.S.C. Aspherical
15. Enna München Ennalyt 85mm f/1.5

That's about it. I'm still missing the SMC Pentax-A* 85mm f/1.4 and SMC Pentax-FA* 85mm f/1.4 (even though I'm a Pentax man!) but that's because these are always overpriced when compared to other fast lenses (for no other reasons than the brand name). The A* 85/1.4 shouldn't be worth more than a new Zeiss ZK 85/1.4 but unfortunately it does... So I search a little bit more for examples with good prices Twisted Evil

Apart from the Canons, all lenses fit to my Pentax cameras. Maybe I will extend my search to other mounts now and include at least one of each brand (Nikon, Olympus, Konica, Zeiss, Leica, etc) if the lens fits to my criteria (so again: between 70 and 90mm, with a speed of f/2 or faster, mountable to a DSLR).
