I thought this site was interesting:

http://www.g-st.ch/privat/kameras/zenit.html

Its shows all the production cameras of the KMZ plant in addition to the prototypes that never quite made it. I don't speak german to well...so I can only get some rough translations but fun nonetheless.

My favorite in the mix has to be the kristall prototype - what a gorgeous camera! How bout everyone else?

I think that the old Zenits from the 50s and 60s are some of the most beautiful cameras that I ever saw.

I am not a fan of the look of the more recent Zenits.
To tell it all, I find the very latest Zenits (like the 412) really horrendous.

One of the later Zenits that I think looks very nice is the AM and AM2 series.

Quite a history, overall! Very fun to read.

Thanks a lot for sharing it!
As a proud owner of a Zenit 122 I welcome any info I can get...
Best regards,
Jes.

Those early Zenits showed a strong art-deco influence, where as the newer ones tried and failed for a futuristic style.
I think the problem is that the art-deco influence gives a better futuristic style which when ignored looks boxy and cheap.

Just goes to show how well good style holds up.

They are very whimsical and unreliable, with some objectives Pentax do not work.
