Guys, thank you very much for your insightful answers! So what I did I do? I got extremely fed up with the fact that I just got another bad Zeiss Jena lens, just like the other CZJ lenses I purchased earlier. Their mechanical quality really isn't up to Japanese standards.

So I was so p*ssed off that I unscrewed the back part, the three screws that Hacksawbob mentioned. I'm glad that I did because I solved the problem altogether! Shocked

The problem? It was quickly clear how everyting was supposed to work. In fact it is mechanically very simple, but it can go wrong when... the diaphragm blades are stuck together with grease. So I had a peek around and cleaned the blades with naphta. They're not 100% clean now, but everything is now fully functional. The A/M switch works and so does the diaphragm pin.

I'm happy Very Happy

It was a good experience. You don't get the chance often to inspect such a rare lens and I'm glad I did. The experience is priceless!

I wil post the first picture in the next few minutes... Evil or Very Mad

Great stuff! Glad you got it sorted, this has happened to me a couple of times too. First time I got no discount as I'd taken a risk on an item with poor description, second time I got 50% off Smile

That lens looks ace BTW. Hope you have lots of fun with it!!

Guau!!! At f/5.6 you can appreciate a clear 3D effect. Great lens! Glad that you have solved the problem.

When my economy improve, the first lens that I will buy will be the pancolar 80/1.8 or biotar 75/1,5.

I have it determined.

And you were determinant in this determination, friend Attila.

Rino.

Both lenses are exceptional, especially if we look how old they are.

You posted today :

"Wide open shoot at available light. Made with slim Biotar 7,5cm Exakta 1951 model.
Fat one like this slightly less sharp, but also super sharp equal level about Pancolar 80 or Planar 85mm."

Now I will have to look for the slim Biotar post WWII (1951-53?).

This forum is a disaster for my wallet Laughing

Yet... I have never had so much fun with photography as I have now. Old MF lenses rule!

Contax S (M42) was available from 1948. So I think yes.

I read somewhere Biotar 75mm issued mostly in Exakta mount, M42 and other mount made in lot less quantity. This is a pretty rare lens even in Exakta mount.

Arsenal has nice choices including this one Wink I reverted their price list try to buy anything on low price I didn't find any what is acceptable for me. Seems I am one of the guy with empty pocket who is not targeted by them Wink

I just discovered that I don't need to have everything Wink

The key to find good or rare lens for acceptable price is constant search in local markets, auctions, bazaars and online insertions + dealing with other users and photographers... simply: patience. Arse-Anal is excellent choice for impatient people Smile

Yes, bargain search takes lot of time. I love to buy on Ebay nice items popup lot more times than locally. I don't like to buy on flea market I did try a few times , but I always found garbage only.
