Used to have this lens in my analogue days by the way, and was quite happy with it.

What do you mean by "so damn chap" ...?

I remember the former head of servicing at Minolta Switzerland telling me that they had litterally had trashed "waste containers full of MinAF 4/70-210 mm lenses" during the transition period from the "beercan" to later much lighter MinAF 70-210mm lenses (plastic fantastic MinAF 3.5-4.5/70-210 and 4.5-5.6/70-210).

Yeah, that's amazing, and you could call it a crime Smile
I paid € 40 and I found it within 1 minute after starting my search. Typical asking price here seems to be 60 €, but probably they sell for less.

Yeah, the prices on these really cratered after Sony killed off the A mount. Prior to then, they regularly sold for $200+ and were popular pairings for the various Sony SLTs.

Congrats marcusBMG Fast mirror! Looks nice. I guess too big diameter to fit on Pentax? Would probably fit on mirrorless. What mount is it?

Thanks visualopsins. It's M42 mount. As you can see from the pic it's very flush to the end. The protruding flash mount/beak on the camera casings prevents the lens attaching.
I may diy a pk mount (the mount looks readily swappable) that is sufficiently protruding to get onto one of my cameras, see how much focus range I lose.
I need to get the samsung NX20 off the shelf its been neglected for a good while.

These Sovuet mirror lenses typically have enough extra play in the helical that you can attach a short extension tube and adjust the infinity stop to use them with infinity on a Pentax DSLR. I did this when I was still shooting on a K-1.

Thats an intereting suggestion brian. On this lens the gap between the focus ring and the tripod ring at infinity focus is only a few (~4-5) mm, that limits the focus adjustment and the extension I would need to add to the mount would be more. But it's worth a try, if only to get back some of the focus range. The lens only focused to about 30mm with a 10mm extension tube on.

A friend gave me a Asahi Pentax Spotmatic with Super-Takumar 1.4/50mm and 2.8/105mm and I recently used them for the first time. Quite happy with the results. First image with the 50mm and the second with 105mm.

Total classics and great images from them!

Looks to be around the time A Hard Day's Night movie was made.
He carried one in the movie, as part of his "character", and it got some wickedly heavy abuse.

Bought the rather rare Mamiya EF 35mm f/2.8.
There are some very interesting lenses in this series, and this one was still on my wish list.

I really like my copy of the 55mm 1.8 in M42 mount. It is a very pleasant lens to shoot with and the results are lovely. I hope yours will be just as nice.

I got a couple of Exakta mount lenses.

Tokyo Kogagu RE Auto Topcor 5.8cm 1.8

and Carl Zeiss Jena Pancolar 50mm F2

Got a little bit of time shooting with the Topcor, it is light, the focus throw is maybe a bit too short and too light, I can deal with either case, but when you combine it, it is not as good an experience as other lenses I have (the gold standard as far as I am concerned are the "modern" Voigtlander lenses I own, they nail both focus throw and friction). But it is still a very enjoyable lens to shoot and very sharp in the middle (given how easy it is to get focus peaking even at F5.6 which is what I shot with most of the time).

I still have to shoot it at night and with faster aperture, but from quick inspection of the images, sharpness is excellent in the center, it falls a bit more in the edges than either of my Minolta 55mm, Konica 57mm or Tomioka 55mm. The Bokeh however is very nice, imho - reminds me of the old Yashinon 5cm F2 Tomioka - very painterly while being a lot sharper in the center than that old (early / mid 50s) lens. I guess being a decade later in design / construction helps with that.

Color / Contrast reminds me of the Konica, a bit less punchy than either the Minolta or the Tomioka, but still very pleasing.

The CSJ had a bit of dirt in the optics I had to clean, it shoots nicely, but the focus is a bit too hard, probably needs more CLA, but usable as is. I have not had the chance to actually take it for a proper photo walk so far, but quick impressions are favorable from shooting around the back-yard.

I have the Petri (in M42) and it's one of the most interesting lenses in my collection. Not only does it have quite beautiful bokeh. It's performance as a landscape lens came totally unexpected to me:

Hope yours performs the same.

This hasn't arrived yet. No other bidders, $20 + postage. The lower lens is a Soligor (Tokina) 100/2.8 macro lens, unfortunately without the extender to get to 1:1.

Nice! The other one is a preset Takumar 135/3.5, right? Also a nice lens.

The other one is the Takumar 200/5.6, also nice, and a very light weight option for daylight use.
