I can tell you a great bargain that I missed the other day, thanks to Ebay notifier Email being sent out only once a day (instead of immediately after saved search items get listed, like it should be): Hasselblad/Carl Zeiss F Planar 110mm F2 for $625. Ugh, I still can't believe I missed it!

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Great work Very Happy

Kind of cheating, I worked at the camera shop where they were taken in PX. This was when MF lenses were nigh-on impossible to shift, even Zeiss glass, and we were the only shop locally buying them. I got the pick of what came in, and these two have stayed with me. I think I have a T* somewhere in the large box of "camera junk" as my other half calls it, with a sticky aperture, that was free Wink

Not mine , but interesting Police did store 20-30 pcs never used Flektogon 35mm f2.4 MC from 1980... until 2009 and friend of mine bought them for 100 USD Laughing and after he did sell them 150 USD each , I bought two copies from them and kept one.

Another more less same story, he was short on money and went to sales where people sell stuff when somebody did pass away. He had only 20 USD normally it is enough for two Fed-2 body without lens ... he bought this time 2 pcs Angenienux 50mm F0.95 lens + many other stuff. This lens asking price on Ebay 12000 USD. So real price at least 6000 USD. I bought one of them from him as friend for 300 USD Laughing

I picked up the Pentax-A 150/3.5 lens for my 645 for $18 + $6
shipping. It had banged up filter threads.
However, filters DO happen to screw right in very nicely! Smile

The 150 is among the sharpest lenses I've owned in the past 50 years,
equal to the Pentax-A 55/2.8 lens.

The MF lenses for the 645 have raised astronomically in the
past 6 months, I suppose because people are purchasing the
645D in ever increasing numbers because of its relatively low
price, coupled with superb build and excellent results, and
want a good lens for less than the AF versions. Shocked

Even the bombastic Ken Rockwell had good words for this lens:

I posted this in another thread, but think it ought to go here too.

I picked this up as a "box of lenses" at a local car boot sale this morning and had to pay £15.50 for it.

From the top right downwards in rows, all in M42 mount

Optomax Auto 300mm f5.5
Prinz Galaxy 135mm f3.5
CZJ DDR Tessar 50mm f2.8 on the Praktica
Photax Paragon 135mm f2.8
Prinzflex Auto Reflex 35mm f2.8
Vivitar 200mm f3.5
MOG Domiplan 50mm f2.8 on the lower Praktica

There are a pair of LENTAR wide-angle and tele-photo adapters for a "Polaroid Camera" plus several other "indeterminate" lenses from lord knows what, plus a box full of threaded tripod adapters etc.

Oh, and a "Weston Master II" and a "Leningrad 4" light meter. And some M42 extension tubes. And a slide duplicator.

All in all, a fine haul. None of them rare, expensive or even very good, but as a bargain box, it will no doubt give me hours of fun Smile

Wow, Martyn! That's definitely one for the "score" column! Me, I like gadgets and doodads. Looks like you've gotten a pretty nice haul of them along with some decent photo gear.

Smile Smile I love doodads too and there are quite a few here Smile Smile

Take for example, extreme bottom left, a "remote shutter release", except it isn't "remote" in that it looks like it would screw directly into the camera. In addition, it has a flash connection just under the button. No idea what camera it's for, but hey - a neat bit of engineering Smile

Anyone have any idea which "poleroid camera" the LENTARs are for?

PS. I see from your sig that you, too, own a "zoom slide duplicator" Smile

Yeah, mine's an old Cambron -- Cambridge Camera house brand. Back in the 80s, they were advertized for about $70-80, and I always wanted one but never wanted to spend the money. Picked it up off eBay for about $10 in the box.

It works well if you have a FF camera. If you have an APS-C or smaller, it's only useful for cropping of slides -- but it does do a good job of that.

Here's a Cambron, but a later version than mine:

Mine is a T-Mount 2.5x zoom slide duplicator marked as an "OHNAR", a "Bush & Meissner product". I have a FF 5D but no slides to try it out on Smile Its box is still marked with the shop price tag for £27.95 Smile

Check further up... I worked for a small independent who bought them in. At this point, it was almost hard to give MF lenses away. AF+35mm was the norm, and DSLR's were just coming into the "Affordable" range.

Reading this thread induced an intense sense of inadequacy in me. So when I saw a local online listing for 3 MD/MC mount lenses for $50, I decided to go for it without thinking. I figured I should also experience the thrill that many of you obviously have. Well guess what, I likely only got what I paid for, perhaps even less. You guys are to blame. Thank a lot!

The loot was 2 Cosina lenses (1 24mm f2.8, 1 80-200mm f4.5), a Minolta-Rokkor (50mm f1.7) , and a large lens hard-case. I probably should've walked away but not knowing anything about the cosinas, i got curious. At least, I will have a fun hour or two testing these...that fun might be worth $1000. If the lenses are good, additional gravy! That's what I am telling myself.

Aside: Later on, I will update this post with lens results, so this post isn't a total waste of thread space. Smile

I look forward your results , I have no clue any of these lenses. Just general informations about brands.

The 1.7/50 Rokkor should be a really nice lens, I'll be surprised if it isn't.

The Cosina 2.8/24 also sounds well worth having, 24mm lenses are not half so common or cheap as 28mm ones, so if this Cosina is decent then you did well for your 50 bucks imho. No idea about the 80-200, might be good, might not, but at least you'll learn something in the testing process!

You were quite right -- the lenses are very good. Would not categorize any of them as extraordinary but imo all three are solid lenses.

Minolta-Rokkor 50mm f1.7 -- I already had a Minolta 50mm f1.7 (not Rokkor) and find this one very similar in all respects. Produces beautiful colors, smooth skin tones, creamy bokeh on portrait shots with my mft. All my shots were taken indoors in mediocre/not-bright lighting but results were decent. Sorry not posting portrait samples except to note that the pics are not tack sharp handheld at f1.7, 1/10s. Sharper at f2.8. Ideally need to take shots in bright day-light at higher shutter speeds judge sharpness. Solid lens though.

Cosina 24mm f2.8 -- Overall quality of output (color, skin tones, bokeh) is very similar to the Minolta-Rokkor f1.7...almost like the younger brother, only difference is focal length and of course 1 stop. Excellent lens in my opinion. Comparable or better than the two MFT pancake lenses in output (of course no AF). Nice build. I would never have thought a "off brand" would be built this well. Worth owning for sure imo.

Cosina 80-200mm f4.5 -- Very compact for 80-200mm (compared to my Vivitar series 1 70-210mm f3.5). To my surprise, this lens also produced clear vibrant colors and is very usable. For some reason, I was expecting shabby/dark/noisy output but my test shots taken in evening/fading light were much better than I was expecting. Will need to wait for a night with clear moon-shot to compare with the Vivitar series 1 but I suspect this lens might be as good on bright days. If that is the case, I am keeping this just for its size. Another beaut with excellent build. I am beginning to like the Cosina brand Smile I'm attaching a few test shots from this lens. All shots are at 200mm, f4.5, and are hand-held.

Plant at 15 feet. Straight out of camera. iso100, 1/25s. Ordinary pic but illustrates realistic color reproduction.

Plane passing by. 100% crop. No other mods.

Sparrow at 35-feet. iso 100, 1/25s. 100% crop. No other mods.

Worth keeping I think.

Moderators -- if this post would be better served elsewhere, please move when you think appropriate. Apologies and thanks.

Today at a garage sale a Yashica FX2 + Tamron 103A + Yashica ML1.7/50 lens and a nice bag to carry it away in... Very Happy For $30au
The condition of the camera is ok the faint sign of pitting on the side of the viewfinder, some wear on the shutter a white mark...any idea of how to test the soundness of the shutter for light?
The Tamron is nice slight internal fungus but it produces some really nice images...I just bump up the contrast etc
The Yashica lens looks clean and clear.

Hey, nice haul, Mo. You got yourself a good workhorse that you can build a Contax/Yashica system on now. That Yashica ML 50 should be a very good lens.

Interesting, that white stuff on the shutter. Does it come off at all? You might try a swab dipped in alcohol.

It's easy enough to test the shutter for being light tight on an SLR. Remove the lens, open up the back, gently lift the mirror, and point the camera at a light source, then look at the shutter from the back side of the camera. You should see no pinholes are anything else leaking light.

Then let go of the mirror, trip the shutter to expose the 2nd curtain, and do the same thing again.

My most recent "hauls," -- dunno about them being wonderful deals, but I'll make out:

Olympus outfit: OM-1, OM-1n, 50/1.8 Zuiko, 135/3.5 Zuiko, Shoe 1, Shoe 4, plain matter focusing screen, Oly Trip 35, Vivitar 283.

$100 for all. I'm gonna sell everything on eBay but the Trip 35. I should come close to doubling my money.

Canon FD 400mm f/4.5 IF -- a couple of threads here already about this lens. Paid $250 for it. It has a bit of fungus inside that I used as a bargaining chip. I don't believe there's enough fungus in there to affect image quality.

Just scored a Pentacon 135 for £5... Again fungus, but even if it needs ripping apart, it will be a nice learning curve. Assuming it lives through the operation, it will add to my now growing family of Pentacon's Looking for a cheap 200mm and 50mm now, maybe a 28mm.

PostPosted: Fri Apr 22, 2011 10:49 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Thanks Michael for the shutter tip.
It does open up a whole new world in lenses having a contax/yashica mount... Very Happy But they just may be way out of my price reach Sad (won't stop me looking)
That is a nice score with all those Oly's.

I have the 1.8/50 and 2.8/28 Pentacons and love em, great lenses for the price. I have the M42 and PB versions of the 50 and the PB version of the 28, like em all. A Pentacon 135 and 200 are on my shopping list too to complete the set, the 300 and rare 500 are also on the list too but will cost a fair bit.

Maybe not that big of a bargain but I'm happy with it - M42 Pentacon 4/200 for 14.05ukp inc shipping.

The best value I've had recently is a Fuji X100. It was for sale
for the astronomical sum of $2100. Shocked However, the seller is a
long time friend from Indonesia, who I have done a lot of favors for
over the years. So I gave up $800 for the X100. Not a HUGE deal, but
not bad, either.

So...even though I was not looking for any favors back and was doing
the favors for him without remorse, I WAS able to let him reciprocate. Smile

So, in essence I saved a "real time" amount of $200 from retail price,
and also saved a long wait for a pre-ordered camera.
