I like the Nikkor Auto S.C 55mm f1.2 very much.
Else, you have the Fujinon 55mm f1.8 and the Super Takumar 55mm f1.8.
Also, you could consider the very good Helios 44-2 58mm f2. _________________ Olivier - Moderator

I'd recommend Cosinon 55/1.4.
It also can be found under the names Rikenon 55/1.4, Auto Revuenon 55/1.4, Exida 55/1.4, Exactar 55/1.4, Sears 55/1.4, Mamiya/Sekor 55/1.4, Porst Color Auto Reflex 55/1.4, Super Carenar 55/1.4, Super Reflecta 55/1.4.
Here is my test album made by this lens http://www.alphatraveller.org/gallery/index.php?/category/97 .
This lens is relatively easy to find and relatively cheap but gives great results! |

Why 55mm?
Just get a Contax Planar T* 1.7/50 and be satisfied you have the best you can buy short of the ultra expensive.
A couple sold for around 40ukp on ebay uk this week, always plenty of them for sale but they usually go for quite a bit more. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

i get a contax yashica planar 50mm 1.4, 50mm 1.7 and a rolleiflex planar 50mm 1.8 hft. i prefere the rolleiflex planar 50mm 1.8 hft more because it's sharpest, lowest price (for me 30e) and get a closer focus than the contax 50mm 1.7 ( 45cm vs 60cm).

These can be found in M42 mount and may or may not be a Tomioka product.
Regardless, they are beautifully made and are a delight to use. Images are wonderful - sharp wide open, with creamy bokeh, and super sharp closed down.
Here are some samples

That's what I was advising too. They can be Tomioka made and Cosina made, but either way they are BEAUTIFUL lenses, perfectly usable wide open. |

Not a bad lens at all, but IMHO the Tak is better in almost every field of comparison.
Takumar 55 1.8 is excellent as well _________________ Powered by Sony A7ii, Canonet QL17 G-III, Konica Hexar RF and:

The problem is, it's almost impossible to kill a Takumar, whereas 55/1.4's are just not nearly as robust, and if your bargain arrives damaged, chances are it will stay that way. |
