I've found it (the SBC) as straightforward as any other light meter, but where it really scores is in its sheer range of exposure values. The plug-in accessories would be nice to have, but not essential.

Ditto all that - I reckon my SBC must be the older one with the analogue dial, same as Attila's - no sign of any lights on it, but the battery is the same as yours. It's amazing how long a rechargeable 9V battery lasts in it - months on end.
