It looks like that Tokina is actually a re-branded Kobori lens:

There's a Koboron on eBay UK at the moment, fitted to a Nikkormat:

If it is the Kobori lens, then care may be required. I have a copy of that, but one internal element has enough haze to make the lens not worth using, which was also not removable by cleaning. I have also seen the ocassional copy of this lens for sale, but usually the seller mentions the haze, and it's often enough to wonder if the ones listed without mentioning haze just have a lister with either less experience, or less honesty. So, proceed with care. |

That's a good point. A lens tested in the thread I linked to had the haze problem too.

That's a good point. A lens tested in the thread I linked to had the haze problem too. |
If you read on through that thread Ian posted, the lens didn't have a problem with haze; it was due to something smeared on the camera sensor. After it was cleaned, the lens turned out to be a good performer.

No, not really. I recently got a like-new Sony Zeiss ZA 2.8/24.70mm II (thus the newest version) for CHF 370.-- / USD 405.--. Not from ebay, though, but from the local photo store here. And on top of that there was, for free, an aditional defective ZA 2.8/24-70mm I which I later on did repair successfully (http://www.artaphot.ch/repair-stuff/598-sony-zeiss-vario-sonnar-2-8-24-70mm-za). So two ZA 2.8/24-70mm lenses for USD 400.--, plus a little work ...
I have another 2.8/24-70mm with a blocked zoom ring here (probably a loose screw as well). I got it for free as well: It's a Canon EF 2.8/24-70mm I.
The very same store mentioned above still has a "like new" Sony Zeiss FE 4/24-70mm ZA for CHF 395.--, and a "like new" Nikkor Z 4/24-70mm S for CHF 540.-- ...

Mid-range zooms, and especially the fast ones, are notoriously difficult to compute: On the wide end, one would prefer a "retrofocus" (negative group in front), at the long end a tele construction would be better (positive group in front). The AF Nikkor 2.8/35-70mm, for instance, is really bad wide open, much worse than the earlier Nikkor AiS 3.5/35-70mm.

Honestly it's not terrible in use, as opposed to in testing. Read Kirk Tuck's comments here https://visualsciencelab.blogspot.com/2016/12/a-modest-and-short-list-of-three-most.html.
However there are better lenses in the class - Everything suggests the FE 24-105/4 is a better lens. Personally, I used an adapted copy of Canon's excellent EF 24-70 f/4L which proved better all round on my A7r and was a factor in my partial return to Canon DSLRs back in 2017. |
