I have two Cosina lens that have rubber grips that are loose, they are Cosinon 2.8-35 and a Cosinon 2.1-55, both are otherwise in good order cosmetically and functionally. On both of these lens the rubber grip seems to have stretched, to the degree where there is s loop of slack when turning the focus ring. The focus ring isn't tight and feels okay on both lens. Can these rubber grips be `shrunk' back to size? or do they somehow have to be replaced? I have had these lens for many years and quite like them, the f2.1 55 seems a good lens dispite it's odd fsize!
Defect shown below and is same on both these lens.

I did consider that, but thought I'd ask about it first, d'you think that's the only thing to do? 'd be nice if I could shrink it. A single line would probably be sufficient and a dab of glue to anchor it, eh?

On my Tamron 35-80, the focus ring rubber was almost falling off, through stretching like that. I bound on a wrap of self-amalgamating tape and fitted the rubber back on top of that, if necessary I would have smeared a blob or two of rubber glue between the two layers, but it wasn't needed. _________________ Dave - Moderator

Put rubber off the lens. Cut it on one part. Then press it by the lens (and stretch as much as necessary) to measure how many lines you'll need to take off. Cut those lines off. Let the rubber join where it's least visible. Those super fast moment glues work like charm in my experience. _________________ ---------------------------------

Don't cut anything before you try soaking the grip in Zippo fluid overnight. Benzine is known to shrink rubber by washing out oils that, when accumulating over time, make the rubber expand. If that doesn't help, then cut _________________ List of lenses |

Thanks aoleg, Zipo lighter fluid it is then! Zipo's fuel is different to cheaper fuels, it is noticeably slower to evaporate than alternatives. It is also dearer! but I'll give it a go.
