I went downtown this afternoon, as the weather is definitely getting warmer,
and shot a set using the Sigma Mini-Wide 28mm lens:

late entry, self portrait, ha!

I finished my roll in the Agfa Isolette, too, will see what happens with
that.

Probably reshoot some of these in better light. Focus is a little off in 3.

The alley stage shot would be nice with someone performing and people at the tables.

You were obviously up before everyone else! Fascinating series - a lens I do not know at all. And your season is a lot more advanced than here on the other coast.

As they say, timing is everything! Laughing Not much going on at 6pm on a
Sunday night.

Patrick, it was the other side, about an hour from dusk. The light was kind
of wonky, may try for morning to see if there's an improvement. Probably
needs a filter, all I had was the lens hood.

Morning wont help the alley, but it will help the cafe if it is before 8:30 and people are grabbing a cuppa before work. Smile Smile Smile

Composition-wise, that was probably the best photo, too bad about the
focus. Sad

Thanks, Patrick, duly noted! Wink

Here's another from today, and I reworked the alley shot back to being
uncropped. It lost something to me when I cropped-out some of the sky
because it was so bright. I'm really getting to the point that I want to have
exactly what I originally shot, no crops. Is the reworked version better, or
worse? And what filter would help the glare in these shots, an NG or
polarizer?

nice series from a nice town Bill
I think this sigma lack contrast probably due to internal flare

Poilu, you may have something, there. I'll try some other lenses the next
time I'm downtown.

Alley shot would definitely benefit from ND filter. I too suspect that the Sigma may be prone to flare - that is definitely the problem with the alley shot.

Orio, I should've said, this is with my Oly e300, I could wish for it being
scanned for an excuse! I am taking my Oly 35RC which has the Zuiko lens
that doesn't flare at all, and see what I can come up with. I am just about
ready to order some slide film!

Patrick, yes, ND, not NG (for no good) filter would've helped!

Hi Bill,
I see you are not too far from me (I live in the Dallas, Ga area, about 35 miles from the Al state line)...Nice to see some pictures of the city posted as I've been entertaining a trip there in the not too distant future...I was up in Rome, Ga a couple of weeks ago looking for scenic areas as it was.

Hi Scott, I've been through Rome, pretty area, on my way to Atlanta. I
imagine everything is popping out over where you are, too.

Not too happy with this series and am going back a little later today to
reshoot some of these with a different lens.

Poilu, looks much better, what did yoo doo? Let's see you fix the alley shot
or tell me what you did with this, and I will work on it some more. I'm going
back there in 20 minutes and am using the Yashica ML 28/2.8 lens this
time.

Poilu, I really like the version to the right of the original!

Here's some I did today, using the Yashica ML 28/2.8 lens:

Now that's the lens. I have it and am mightily impressed since it cost me less than $20. You have really given it a nice exposition there. Much better than the Sigma. The alley came to life!

Gosh, Patrick, I need you to shop for my lenses, I got mine for less than $50
and was quite pleased! Laughing Yes, I have Orio to thank for bringing this lens
out into the light as it were. A keeper. (The lens, not Orio, well, Orio, too!)

Thanks for your comments and agree, the alley shot this time is much better!

I was lucky I got the 28/2,8, 50/1.7 and 135/2.8 as a package for less than $70. I like all of them. Smile Smile As I stated on a post today, my best recent buy was a pair of Schneiders for $42 including the 4/35 Curtagon. Everyone with patience has a similar bargain story on ebay. Smile Smile

Patrick,
I now have the 135/2.8 plus the largest extension tube that I haven't tried
yet. Really impressed so far with ML lenses! Wow, you certainly have done
some bargains on ebay!!!

Thanks, and yes, I second Patrick's comment, that's the lens, the difference is visible even to a casual viewer, and so guys you will forgive me next time my senile obsessions push me to defaming Sigma and celebrating Contax and Yashica lenses Laughing

Orio

Your results speak loudly for themselves.

Bill

That is really night and day in terms of quality. Now we can see what caught your eye originally
