hi..
This guy uses a canon 100mm Macro, & probably other equipments with it to get such details on insects. Any idea if there are any OLD MF & equipments that can be used to achieve similar results ....
http://blepharopsis.deviantart.com/art/mantids-ref-chart-3-70531784
I have also come across some methods where a Macro lense and another lense is attached in reverse to get shots of very micro stuff like mosquito head etc..

Hi dakoo,
this kind of result have little to do with the lens
it is more about technical skill.
controlled light, immobile target, focus stacking...
view a demo with focus stacking
http://www.heliconsoft.com/animation/Krebs_fly1/index.html
you can reverse almost any lens to get high magification
bellows are also useful
the problem is small dof and it is better to have dead target
this is my Russian bellow with industar and helios
a shot with the industar on this bellow

Try CombineZM, this is free software and is even superior (my finds) to Helicon focus.

Then shoot a stack with sufficient enough images and neatly stack them using CZM - works wonders!! Lightinh is a crucial point, so THAT has to be controlled.

Thnx Klaus, poliu, Attila ..
I will give a reverse mount Pancolar & combineZ a try..
Though this info answers the second photograph.
The first one is still a puzzel ??? If you have a look at his deviant gallery, you will notice these are single shots & not a stack..

The photos have a surreal effect. I think due to software rework. But I still like it very much.

I thought the same attila, but guess i came across one of his comments where he says he has taken it in wild, But still i guess it won't be all. But clearly there is use of flashes in it & probably a canon 100/2.8 macro + maybe some closeup filters or something .. am not sure. Hence put the question. Would love to aquire a lense which is as good as the canon macro but MF & has those lovely bokeh we see in our gallery all the time. |
