My hobby is servicing manual lenses, especially Zeiss ones. I m really fascinating how much over the time this company improved construction of their lenses. I reassembled probably more than 50 of Carl Zeiss Jena pancolar 50m 1.8 and it is amazing how even lens with close serial number can be different. Idea is to construct lighter and simpler lens with same quality. The first ones is really hard to fix, and latter ones is so simple. So today I have to version of pentacon six sonnars 180 2.8. I test them and made some photos with them and they are identical. So I just provide you photos so you can see difference of body.

You say the two are identical, photos wise, and they both appear to have multi-coloured reflections on the front elements. But only one is marked MC, do you know if there is a difference between the two coatings? _________________ Gary

Both of them have coatings, but if you look on the front elements the MC one have more violet coating and other one have blue coating. But if you look at the rare elements the MC have blue-violet and the other one have more like red coating.
Oliver nice lens I think this is the one of the first versions of this lens. My suggestion that that is after Olympic version and before zebra one, anyone can confirm this? _________________ Perfection is just another type of anomaly |

My version has a few scars but it's in perfect working order.
No MC on the front, weighs 1.6Kg. Not as sharp as I'd like but still a great lens.

SonicScot nice lens, I think this the zebra one. Is there any coating?
Orio I didn't understand which lens is M42. My both lenses is P6 mount. But I read somewhere that the bothom of MC version is opened (see pictures) because there is variations of adapters that goes with lens. Maybe thats why you think it is M42. _________________ Perfection is just another type of anomaly |

Strange. Hartmut Thiele lists the lot as being made with M42 mount. _________________ Orio, Administrator
