Shocked Sad My K200D died while taking photos...I was trying out the B&W option and its filter choices...switched back to Normal and then CLUNK a massive noise when I pressed the green button for my next photo and then the Green button will not work,I can not take any photos and the camera when turned on sounds like it is trying to click over every 5 seconds or so.
Any ideas of what it is.... or is it best to find a repairman to get it fixed. Crying or Very sad
For what its worth I can turn it on and see the menus but it is slow to respond when running through the menu choices and as before it seems to be trying to click or turn over something inside every 5 sec.

Sad to hear that. Is there any error code appearing? Recently, I found this repairer in Australia. He responded on my mail when I had a question on an EOS lens repair. I don't know the guy, but you could ask. How about checking the Pentax website for authorised repair centre? Also try posting a help in the Pentax forum.

Good luck!

Remove any lens installed (put the body cap on the mount). Make sure that the mode dial is not set halfway between modes. And remove the battery for one full minute before you re-insert it. Does that solve your problem?

I have tried removing the batteries and then re inserting them but sadly no change... Sad Thanks for your help I appreciate it.

Thanks Peter
The little lever in my camera is sitting slightly above the screw(On the mount ring) if you look at where the one in the link is sitting. It does not move at all and seems stuck tight where it is.

Just a follow up to what has been happening.
I had asked my repairman what he thought was wrong and his opinion of was it worth getting fixed. His reply was it may have been the Anti-shake mechanism of the camera causing problems. Now another member here suggested it may have to do with the green button and to try another lens that does not need the green button (I may not be explaining the reasoning correctly so please forgive me)
So this is what I did with both of these suggestions....1) put a screw mount lens on the camera 2)turned off the Anti shake and hoped for a miracle.....there was some whirring noises, like the camera running through a process then a small click and all went back to normal.
I am happy to report the K200D is working...I am hoping it will stay that way for a long ,long time!
Very Happy Cool

Mad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Sadly this saga continues...it looks like it needs a service...I pushed the green button in low light and it all jammed up again...something just froze in the camera. It just goes through the whirr click motion and when powering down it shudders and then turns off.I wish I did not have to make this post. Sad
What makes it worse is I have a Helios 2/58 "00" serial number with bright knurls that arrived today and I wanted to try it out! Mad Laughing

very sorry to read this Mo.

since you had success to get it back to working, could you not do the same again?
and then also go in the menu and 'reset' the camera?

if all fails, until you have a new camera you could use it without using the green button. M42 lenses also in Av mode.

best luck!

Moira try AV setting unless you are using manual PK lenses, then use the green button and M setting, almost sounds like a little mechanical problem with the mechanics that would move the lever on the PK lenses is throwing the camera out. When changing aperture in AV mode you might need a test pic first and then compensate the exposure scale to suit.

Thanks John
I did try a few different settings but while it is in this condition it is very slow going through all the menus.. Mad I have rung Pentax Melbourne and for a small fee of $27.50au they will assess the camera and let us know what the damage is.This I think is the best option for the moment as it will let me know exactly what is wrong with the camera and I will find out if it is worth repairing.I can then post it here and hopefully it could help others out.It is funny $27.50 is about what I would normally pay for a "cheap" MF lense!
The repair guy did mention there is a "safe mode" that the camera can be in and it stops certain functions from working...he did not say how or why the camera may be in this mode.. Smile Has anyone else heard of this "safe mode"?

Good news I finally received the quote to fix the camera... Shocked is about all I can say...but it was only a little higher than what I was thinking. Smile

The bad news... it turns out it has to have the Main switch board replaced? I am not that tech minded when it comes to DSLR cameras and their insides and I am assuming a switch board is a major part of the camera?.

That's good news. I think the main switch board is under the power switch and not difficult to access, probably more a mechanical problem that a complex electronic issue. Nothing related to the sensor or the processor.

I hope you get it back soon Smile

Thanks Jes, Still if it is a "minor issue" I hate to think what a major issue would cost Smile Anyway I can not wait to have it back in my hands...I have the Helios waiting to be used.

Final outcome:
They replaced the main PC board and Diaphragm control block = cost about the same as a 2nd hand replacement camera. Confused The camera feels good and sounds smoother than before when using the Green button. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy I am so happy to have it back.

Jes, they gave me the old Board, you can have it if you are interested in it?

Good news !

At first, I would have said "Buy a new K-R instead" but ... I handled my GF's K-R the other day and ... naaaah, doesn't feel as good as my good old K200D.

Just reviving this old post to say the K200D died again, almost the same symptoms. It just seized up and you can't activate the shutter or get any response from the shutter button when you depress it.You can move slowly through the menu to use the dust removing feature...I was hoping to kick start the camera... Laughing

I don't think I will be getting it repaired this time... Sad Sad
